I've amused myself lately - while doing other things or just terribly bored - by trying to poke holes in the GhostCity plot/universe, in order to force myself to either flesh out or outright fix things. Or even just amuse myself with oddities I barely recognized

The reason the ninjas 'seen' so far are so very inept is because they're essentially lowest bidders...they ammount to little more than a company of people who think ninjas are cool, and who have a bare minimum of ninja training. There are just a whooooole lot of them.
As for why they don't slaughter the fakers....anyone powerful enough to hire the real deal knows enough to tell and respect the difference, and what purpose would it serve? Hell, having the fakes around might even do them some good...who's going to be paranoid about a real ninja when the majority of the "ninja" population is so inept?

There IS a global information network, called the web or the net. Due to GC's significantly higher technology level, it's not quite the same one we know - there's the normal web-browsery one, and there's one more along the lines of, say, Cowboy Bebop - full 3-d immersal into a vast information network. The latter takes some talent or training to use, plus some special equipment.
Gaming hasn't quite caught up enough to use the latter, though.

Blayde uses it for research, sometimes, but like most spellcasters, prefers a good book. Rune tinks with it off and on, but is...really quite bad with computers.
Crystal uses it a lot, but she's got a direct link to it inside her head, so she can surf in the back of her mind while she's doing other things.
