In 2011 I started keeping track of my health more, so I was able to construct a possible incomplete list of cold-symptom periods. It's possible some of them were hay fever, like Apr/May, or Sep 2019 in Australia, but I think I can tell the difference -- I had very obvious hay fever a bit later in Australia.

unpleasant thought about boosters, variants, and lasting antibody immunity
What happens when you get a booster shot? Same thing as usual: B cells responsive to those antigens multiply, and diversify, randomly mutating in case they get a better fit.

mask variance
It's interesting how Toronto mask wearing is pretty good on transit and in supermarkets but then goes to shit in Walmart. Not completely to shit, majority still masked, but definitely seemed like more noses and outright maskless people. Some of that might be spillover from the mall food court, but still.

trickle-down econ vs. housing filtering

Trickle-down isn't *entirely* wrong: if you give rich people money, they'll spend some, which goes to other people. But you'd do more good by giving the money directly to poorer people. Supply-side econ, the idea that cutting taxes on the rich will do more good via trickling ( Read more... ) -
boiling eggs is hard
At least when you're doing a whole bunch at once. The usual advice is along the lines of "bring to a boil, let sit for 10 to 17 minutes" which is already a range. And sometimes that works. But at my current place, I'd cooled 12 medium eggs after 9 minutes sitting in hot water, and the yolks were already more set and bland yellow than I liked.

glasses problem
I just picked up new glasses, on a new prescription. I understand about the brain having to adjust to a new pair of glasses. But keeping just one eye open, the right lens is better than my old glasses, but the left lens is worse, blurrier. The saleslady insisted I take them away and try them for a while, and it's not like they had doctors in ( Read more... ) -
1 Dec update
Stayed in Sunday and Monday due to snowing at near-freezing temperatures. The cold is one thing but I hate being around the possibility of ice. No, I didn't enjoy Boston winters, why do you ask? Plus I don't travel with snow boots, just crocs and shoes.
