Spent Friday with zapkitty, and Jade at KingTut down in Pineville. Amazing Arabic food, sexy belly dancer, the top 5 hookah I've ever had. 7 hours later, it's late as fuck and time to go home. Did so happily, with a smile, and appreciation for friends and good times ( Read more... )

I think only one company does Mini rentals short term on Oahu - here's the link. We leased one through the dealership and were able to break the lease when Jeff deployed - I know that's super sneaky, bwahaha. But any convertible will do; smaller's just better because some of the parking spaces on Oahu tend to be tight.

Trust me on this one - don't err on the side of overscheduling your Hawaii trip. I'd even go so far as advising you to let it ride once you get your hotels, flights and cars taken care of. I can't imagine trying to structure a trip to Kauai; it's extremely counterintuitive. You'll see once you get there.

you rock so hard --- thank you!!!

I'm thinking since I'm in Kauai from the 19th to the 23rd, that I'll do east on the 19th, North on the 20th, west of the 21st, south, on the 22nd, and it works out on us back to the east on the 23rd so we can then fly over to Oahu

Got alllll the booking done there too -- at least lodging -- 4 nights at turtle bay and the rest of the time in a beach-front condo right on Shark Bay! :-D

Know I'll need the 4-wheeler for the 1st island, not sure how much actual transport I'll need for Oahu though, as appealing as the mini is

I wish I were down there too! :(

I think I might know the condo you are talking about! I was a bit of a North Shore junkie, especially when Jeff was at sea.

I bet if you do a search for reef shoes on Amazon, you probably got Reef flip flops (which are super comfy by the way...I got to be a bit of a slipper connoisseur after living on an island that long). I swore by Teva sandals (the link goes to the pair I have) any time I was in the water. They're really lightweight and feel like sneakers turned into sandals - and they also grip even when they're wet. I wore them for swimming and most of the hiking I did. You can usually find them super cheap at REI or the Sierra Trading Post website. You could also go more basic and do slip-on water shoes, but they aren't as versatile - and I think the waves can pull them off easier than Tevas unless they fit tight. (Visitors tended to pick on me for hiking in open shoes, but I never had a problem with it. I must have been a sasquatch in another life - the less shoe, the better... but ( ... )
