Thanks - sounds like much of the same dilemmas as I'm having - basically I know the iPhone battery is not as good as the Nokia's or the Blackberrys, but then to be fair, they are only powering half the size of screen. I am definitely stuck between wanting a touchscreen for the better real estate when browsing, and the QWERTY ones for ease of typing, and better battery life ( ... )

I had a Windows based phone for 2 years. I hated it from the start and grew to hate it even more. Got a Nokia E71 now which I'm well happy with - I can make and answer calls for one thing!

On the HTC hardware front, the couple I've had were pretty good and I hear the keyboard on the latest is a "joy". However, look at the ones running Android as Windows Mobile is, if not actually shit, then pretty damn smelly. HTC and others get around this by adding various pretty layers on top, such as TouchFlo. This is fine as long as you can stay entirely within their UI but they have a tendency to only cover the most popular stuff. If there's anything you want to be able to do otherwise, you're going to be hitting WM again and that hurts ( ... )

Hmmm yes that is the problem with most of the mobile phone websites, they never tell you whether the HTC's are running WM or Android. I would like to avoid WM....

The original HTC Magic Google phone actually looks quite good, but from memory it is missing one of the specs I was looking for....

I can't afford anything except the 4.95 phone I have now until I sell a flat and I am on payg so any would be expensive unless I go back to a monthly tarrif, but I did like the iphones friends have. I might not like no keyboard. I want a pretty screen with icons to touch. I do voicemail. calls, texts. I'd want GPS as I get lost a lot. Camera would be nice. Radio, but not so bothered about other music. Email and browser. Definitely nothing on Tmobile as they were my last contract about 7 years ago and really annoyed me over closing the contract.
