BEDA Entry 27: Lurking the Web

Apr 27, 2009 09:56

I'll be the first to admit it: I'm a lurker. When I'm on YouTube, it's my first instinct to merely exit the video after it's done. While reading other people's blogs, I prefer to just read them without any interaction on my part. When I watch BlogTV live shows, I really don't care to talk in the chat room. of course you have lurkers...the fast-motion/glasses guys :-p

I'm still a half-lurker on youtube, but mostly on the more popular channels. I have been thinking I should comment on blogs of non-"friends" and I decided to actually comment on Kristina's blog. If she uses the "made-up" word I did then we'll count that as something coming of it.

I've made some even newer friends, sorta by commenting on Dailybooth pics, and I've noticed you're still sorta lurking there. so i think that should be part of your challenge (they don't have to be pic comments).

I'm guessing this is Sean. I was thinking about commenting on Kristina's or Hayley's myself.

haha. That's true about Dailybooth, but I don't honestly pay much attention to even the pictures of the people I follow. So I guess that's more apathy than it is lurking. The site really isn't as fun anymore for me.

Lurker is an excellent term for this condition. :) I do the same thing! I've been a lot better lately since I've recently made a lot more friends on YouTube. I always make an effort to reply to people I know better or am friends with, but I should really try more on videos of people that don't know me yet.

You're right. I lurk old friends too that I no longer talk to. I guess lurking comes down to the fact that we care about the person we're lurking for whatever reason. As for friends' blogs, most of the time I don't comment because I don't really have anything to say. I shall try to do better, though! We don't always agree, but other perspectives are great. They can sometimes help open up a one-sided blog post or offer us a view we never saw before.
