Basically? This was a Doctor Who that made me love the Doctor again. I believed in 9, but I never really felt a connection with 10. For season 2 I loved Rose enough to go along, for 3 I almost gave up on Who by the end, for 4 I ADORED Donna...but to be honest? I was more than ready for 10 to go.
I was willing to give Matt Smith a chance, my hopes grew the more I read about him and what little I saw of him. So how did he stand up in his first episode? OMG He made me believe in the Doctor in a way I have never done before. He was magic.
Amy Pond is instantly likeable, my only worry is that it will be a "romantic" thing, but I think she's obsessed, but not in love.
The new Tardis is delicious and beautiful and even though I only had a glimpse of the sonic screwdriver I think it will be beautiful too.
In fact the Tardis and the Doctor's new digs are both vaguely Jules Verne like go well together.
In short? I'm pleased, thrilled and delighted. I feel joyful about new Who which I haven't felt for ages. 4 and a half stars for making me feel joyful!
