Jonghyun dragged himself home, his body weighing him down. Shaking vigorously from side to side, his vision grew blurrer by the second. His drunken stupor was brought about by his many rounds of drinks in the neighborhood pub, in his futile attempt to clear his head. Too bad it only made him more confused, more perplexed, more at a loss.

He lost his footing when he came to a large pebble in his way. Collapsing, he fell heavily to the tarred street below him, under the dim lighting of the street lamps. He didn’t have the strength to pick himself up. He felt like laying his head on the cold, inviting ground, taking a much-needed nap in the middle of the road - who cares if he was stared at? Getting weird glances from passers-by would not be the most emotionally wrenching thing he had done in the past few days.

His breathing was heavy; he was almost panting. His cheeks were turning red at an alarming rate, with his body reacting to the alcohol by burning up. The sky was already pitch black, like a raven’s wings. There weren’t any stars out that night. There shouldn’t be, not with the way Jonghyun was feeling. Seeing stars would have been like having false hope.

Jonghyun’s entire life right now was hopeless.

It was like an intricate web full of carefully weaved lies, lies that were starting to snowball into something bigger, bigger, bigger… a small lie about going out to meet a business client was now about to hit him in the back of his head. It had amounted to this, having loud fights at home, screaming at Minho when he questioned why he always came home late at night.

He no longer felt shame when he spoke the opposite of the truth, coming up with another lie to cover up the previous one. Earlier, Jonghyun had made the little effort to make sure that his lies tallied with one another, so that Minho wouldn’t suspect a thing. Whoever would have known that as the number of lies increased, Jonghyun could get so tired of them that he just gave up on covering them. Minho knew that he was lying through his mouth, blatantly.

He didn’t care.

Thinking about everything only made Jonghyun’s head hurt more, his brain pumping hardly against the cartilage walls of his skull, threatening to explode. Palms on the ground, he heaved himself up, struggling to get a proper foothold.

The stumbling continued all the way to Jonghyun’s home. He didn’t actually know where he was going, and was glad that his feet knew exactly where to carry him. Slowly, he made his way home. He was almost crawling.

Jonghyun swore he heard a bird chirp somewhere in the distance.
