Disney Endings vs. Original Endings

I saw this on tumblr today and it actually got me thinking. What would my childhood be if these disney movies actually had the same endings as their original storyline endings?

I will be using SHINee gifs to express my reactions and how some of them played out in my head.

Snow White
Disney: Snow White is awakened by the prince with a kiss. The evil step mother is chased by the dwarves and falls off a cliff, dying.
Original: The prince is in love with Snow White’s body and asks the dwarves if he can have her. While dragging away her coffin he stumbles and a piece of the poisoned apple dislodges from her throat and she wakes up. The prince punishes the step mother by making a heated pair of iron shoes and forcing her to dance in them until she is dead.


Cinderella
Disney: The stepsisters try in vain to fit in the glass slipper but cannot. Cinderella tries on the shoe and it fits, the prince and her get married and Cinderella forgives her step-sisters.
Original: The stepsisters cut off pieces of their feet to try to fit in the slipper but the prince notices the blood. Cinderella fits in the slipper and she and the prince get married. At the wedding birds swoop down and peck at the step-sisters until they are completely blind.



Peter Pan
Disney: Peter brings Wendy and her brothers back to London. The Lost Boys tell Peter they’d rather stay with him in Neverland. Peter asks Wendy to come as well, but she says no, and he flies back without her. Wendy wakes up in her room by the window and tells her parents about the adventures she had; they brush it off as a silly dream. Wendy has come to terms with getting older and feels at peace with her duty as the eldest.
Original: Peter brings Wendy and her brothers back to London. The Lost Boys stay in London and are adopted by different couples. Peter knows that Wendy wants to stay in Neverland with him but tells her this is foolish. He tells her how he is incapable of leaving Neverland or growing up, and that she must stay and experience adulthood. He leaves her in London promising to come visit every spring, but he never does in the hopes it will help her move on and mature.



Sleeping Beauty
Disney: The prince kills the witch and revives sleeping beauty with a kiss.
Original: Sleeping Beauty is left in her castle of thorns for many many years without anyone being able to reach her. The witch dies of old age, leaving the castle harmless but still intimidating. A man wanders into the castle and finds the princess. He is so stunned by her incredible beauty that he has intercourse with her unconscious body, but leaves when he is unable to wake her up. Sleeping Beauty has been impregnated and is woken up 8 months later by the pain of child birth.



The Fox and the Hound 
Disney: The Hunter is attacked by a grizzly bear. The Fox and the Hound fight together to kill the bear. The Hound defends the Fox when the Hunter turns his gun on him. The movie ends with the two reminiscing about the day they became friends.
Original: An outbreak of rabies has spread through the fox population. After a small child is bitten by a fox the Hunter and townspeople organize a large fox hunt. The Hunter sends the Hound after the Fox and the Hound feels inclined to obey his master despite his friendship with the Fox. The chase continues for days until the Fox collapses and dies from exhaustion. The Hound is close to death as well. The Hunter tearfully puts down the Hound.


The Little Mermaid
Disney: The Little Mermaid reveals the prince’s bride to in actuality be the witch. After a fight scene the little mermaids father turns her into a permanent human and she and the prince are married.
Original: The prince’s father tells him to marry the neighboring princess. The Prince tells the mermaid he will not because he is in love with a girl who works at the temple in his city. As it turns out, the girl at the temple is the princess who sneaks out to be educated there. The prince is in love with her and marries her. The mermaid’s heart breaks, but the witch makes a last minute bargain; if the mermaid can take a knife and kill the prince and his bride and allows their blood to drip onto her legs, she will be returned to a mermaid again as if nothing happened. The mermaid cannot find the strength to kill the prince or his bride and throws herself into the ocean, dissolving into sea foam.



Beauty and the Beast
Disney: Belle misses her father and asks to use the Beasts magic mirror to see him. She asks to return home when she sees he is ill and dying and the beast allows it because he is in love with her. In town a mob organizes to kill the beast and Belle races back to help him. The mob is driven away and though he is mortally injured, Belle is able to revive the Beast by confessing her love for him. The Beast returns to his human form and he and Belle get married.
Original: Belle has three older sisters who refused to live in the castle in exchange for the safety of their father, so Belle did despite being the youngest. Belle lives a luxurious life at the Beasts castle but asks to visit home because she is homesick. The Beast agrees but says she must return in exactly three days. Belle goes home and her three sisters are jealous of her lovely gown and jewelry. They fake sadness and ask her to stay an extra day in the hopes that the beast will get angry and eat her. Belle is moved enough to do so but when she returns on the fourth day she discovers the beast has died of heartbreak.




Pocahontas:
Disney: Pocahontas and John Smith have successfully stopped the fighting between the natives and English settlers. However, John Smith has been mortally wounded and must return to England to see a doctor. He asks Pocahontas to come back with him but she tearfully tells him that she must stay with her family. The two wave goodbye on the shoreline.
Original (History): John Smith and Pocahontas had some sort of romantic  relationship, but he is asked to come back to England in a letter and leaves. A while later Pocahontas meets another English settler named John Rolfe and is asked by him to come back to England with him, however on the boat ride there she becomes very ill. When they reach England she dies on the shoreline in Rolfe’s arms.



The Hunchback of Notre Dame: 
Disney: Esmeralda is saved from her burning and Claude Frollo dies when he attempts to kill her and Quasimodo on top of Notre Dame and accidently falls off. Esmeralda brings Quasimodo outside and the villagers welcome him warmly. Esmeralda and Pheobus are married.
Original: Frollo betrays Esmeralda by revealing her hiding place in Notre Dame. At her execution Esmeralda reaches out to Pheobus and cries for help, but he is with his fiancee and pretends he doesn’t know her to avoid getting in trouble. She is hung and Quasimodo throws Frollo off of the Notre Dame in a rage. Quasimodo takes Esmeralda’s body, which was tossed aside, and embraces it. He eventually dies of starvation and their bodies are found years later. When they pry the two apart, Quasimodo’s bones turn to dust.



Hercules:
Disney: Hercules asks to stay on earth and be with Megara. His parents Hera and Zeus agree and paint his portrait in a constellation in honor of his heroism.
Original: Hercules marries Megara. Hera discovers Hercules is the illegitimate child of Zeus and a human princess who Zeus cheated on Hera with. She induces a horrible fit of madness on Hercules as punishment for Zeus and in his madness Hercules kills Megara and the children he had with her. When his fit wears off he realizes what he’s done and flees Greece.



Tarzan:
Disney: Jane stays in the Jungle with Tarzan when she realizes that she is in love with him.
Original: Jane leaves to go back home to England. Tarzan misses her and when a new survey crew arrives to do research he asks the lead surveyor to civilize him, and goes to England to search for Jane. When he finds her he discovers she is engaged to Clayton. Clues from his parents cabin lead the surveyor to realize Tarzan is the sole inheritor of a very wealthy family, however Tarzan turns down the inheritance and returns to the jungle.



Rapunzel (Tangled): 
Disney: Rapunzel is a princess who was kidnapped and trapped by a woman named Mother Gothel in a tower, so that Gothel can use her magical hair and singing voice to stay forever young. She tries to leave her tower with the help of a thief named Flynn. The two fall in love but she is tricked by Gothel into coming back. After Flynn returns to help her there is a fight scene and Flynn is mortally wounded. He cuts Rapunzel’s hair off and the magic in it dies: Gothel has nothing left to keep her young and turns to dust. Rapunzel’s tears revive Flynn and they return to the kingdom where Rapunzel is crowned and the two are married.
Original: A woman named Gothel gives birth to a beautiful girl named Rapunzel. She doesn’t want any men to touch her daughter so she keeps her in a tall tower, letting her hair grow out so she can reach her. A prince hears her beautiful singing voice one day and sneaks into the tower for a few nights to see her. They organize a plan for her to escape and marry him, however before it can happen Rapunzel gives herself away by complaining to Gothel that her dress is becoming to tight. Gothel realizes her stomach is getting larger from pregnancy. She cuts Rapunzel’s hair off and casts her into the woods to die as punishment. The prince comes back to see her but he instead finds the witch who tells him she sent Rapunzel into the woods and she’s probably dead. The Prince is then pushed by Gothel off the tower. He lands in the thorns surrounding it and is blinded. He wanders through the woods blind, and eventually hears Rapunzel’s singing voice and the two are reunited.
