FF14 impressions

Aug 11, 2010 13:40

As some of you already know, I was selected to be one of the beta testers for FF14.

Now that SE has revised their NDA regarding FF14, I'm actually allowed to post some screenshots!

and here goes nothing :P

That's me as Mafuyu Shiina... and the other person should be quite obvious...

bonus point for people that knows where the name came from...!

and us just posing around inside town

My computer spec is as follows:
Intel core 2 duo, 4GB RAM, nvidia 250GTS, windows XP SP3.

Game runs a little laggy with default settings.  I tried to turn down the graphics so it runs smoother but the game became REALLY ugly.  So for now I'll just put up with the lag.

A couple more screenshots first...
As you can see from above screenshots, you now have a first name and a last name.  A lot of people ingame are having fun with it.

And the NPCs!  They are much much better than compared to FF11.  They seem more livelier and actually show emotions and eye movements during CS.

and sometimes they're just creepy...

yikes :P

As for game play itself.  To me it kind of felt very much like World of Warcraft with Final Fantasy skin.  They have introduced a bunch of new game mechanics into this phase of the beta (phase 3 now) and I have yet to poke through all of them.

Leveling your characters now is very different as well.  You have now a physical level and a class rank.  Comparing to what we had in FF11, physical level would be more like the leveling we had in FF11.  You kill mobs, you get EXP toward your physical level.  When you level up, you can assign attribute points and resistances.  Class rank level goes up... more like skilling up a weapon in FF11.  You get a chance for skill up with every action of that class you perform.  Example:  you get a chance to skill up every time you swing your weapon as Gladiator.  You also can skill up when you use provoke, phalanx, rampart, or sword/dagger weapon skill since they are all part of Gladiator skills.  Your character current HP and MP is tied to your class rank.  So when you change from a rank 10 gladiator to a rank 1 conjurer, your HP and MP will change to rank 1 conjurer level.  Your physical level remains unchanged.  So if you had level 15 physical stat... you will have a rank 1 conjurer with a level 15 physical stat.

Graphically, the game is very good.  I liked the upgrade from FF11.   FF11 already have very good graphics for an 8 year old game.  But as a trade off for good graphics, you have to have a more beefier system to handle it.

Anyhow!  I'm going to abruptly end this post here for now! haha.  Phase 3 just barely started last night and I haven't get a chance to test out all the changes.  I'll post more about this at a later date!
