“Harry?” Ron let out a shaky breath.
Harry wouldn’t look at him. “Ron, I… I don’t really want to talk right now, okay?”
Ron bit his lip, staring at the floor and trying to ignore the stinging behind his eyes. “Yeah, Harry, that’s fine. I, um, I understand.”
Harry nodded and turned around, walking out of the room.
Ron collapsed against the wall, dragging his knees to his chest and resting his head there.
Ron could feel time passing, it was strange. It was like one of those clips where everything moved so fast, like you didn’t move once and the entire world continued at the same pace, forgetting you existed entirely.
He kind of liked it.
It was night, and he could feel Harry’s presence at the door. Hermione probably was worried and told Harry to check on him.
Ron hadn’t moved in hours.
There was the slight creak as Harry leaned from foot to foot, hovering anxiously in the doorway, unsure of what to do.
“I’m sorry,” Ron said, his voice no longer strained from crying. It was weird how in this moment he was so calm, so emotionless.
He heard Harry sigh. “I know you are, Ron. But I just…” Harry stopped. “Fuck.” Ron could hear Harry raise his hand to his head. “I just can’t, alright?”
There was a long silence upon which Ron stared at the legs of the desk. They seemed so sturdy, the legs, they were like poles of forever, as Ron liked to call them. No matter how much weight you put on them, they never collapsed.
Ron could feel Harry getting ever more anxious as the silent seconds passed.
“I knew you couldn’t,” he whispered, “even before I said it.”
There was a slight bit of creaking before he could hear Harry’s hurried footsteps as he ran away.
Ron didn’t cry though, he was passed crying.
