This weekend marks the start of the 2009 convention year for me. I am going to Calgary with a friend to attend the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo, to meet with fellow Browncoats and visit with Jewel Staite, Tahmoh Penikett and a bunch of others. The new year is already testing me. Two weeks ago I received the news that the lady who hired me for my current job had passed away. Her son Grant (who now owns the business and is my boss) called on Monday the 7th, and work has been a little out-of-phase ever since. My plans for going to Farpoint have been slightly changed. Three days after booking my flight, I learned that Mira had canceled her appearance, due to a work commitment (yay, work!). The first is Waitress, an indie film that had garnered much praise from reviewers and is indeed a masterpiece. I knocked off work early today and caught a matinee showing of "Spiderman 3". It is fabulous and I highly recommend it. I didn't like the 3 1/2 hour length; had to take a washroom break in the middle. But man, Sam Raimi did both Spidey and Spidey fans proud.
