Why is America always the last to do cool things?

This so crazy! If everyone followed this advice, and if America followed the good example of most of the rest of the world, what a great difference we can make.

I am already recycling my plastic, but I think I will not be getting anymore.

Most of my friends and I are using the cloth shopping bags. They're sturdy and I've found myself using them for things other than shopping.

You can find them at most stores these days. They generally cost about $1.00 each, but they last a long time. I ordered mine from http://www.cleangreenbags.com but a lot of places sell them. I think Walmart even has them now.

We do have those cloth bags available at most grocery stores and I buy them too. I love them and use them for everything. But I need to keep them in the car so I don't forget them.

I also at work won't give a bag if the person is only buying one book/mag/newspaper unless they ask for them. Even if they are buying 2 small books I don't give a bag

google "pacific trash gyre" if you really want to feel ill and guilty.

I've gotten in the habit of bringing reuable bags to the grocery store, but I still wind up with plastic shopping bags at other shopping venues. I try to reuse them (they're useful as trash bags, etc.) but I still have a huge box full of them.

lots of places, like Wal mart have barrels at their entrances to recycle your old plastic bags. Also, there is a decking co called Trex http://www.trex.com/ who use a combo of old furniture and wood with plastic bags to create this beautiful and extremely durable decking material.

I am also trying to find a more biodegradable kitty litter to use as well. Because really that is the bulk of our trash. Used kitty litter. I recycle everything else that I can.

Holy crap. I knew they were getting bad, but I didn't know how bad. I too recycle them, if not to line my home trash cans and cat littler with then I send them to the recycling center. But jeeze.

And what's sad? Other places have caught on. Whole countries have banned them. The US has a couple of cities on board. Pathetic.

Oh I know! We are such arrogant assholes in this country! I also found this cool paper plate that is called Earthshell: http://earthshell.com/ that are made of potatoe, corn, and limestone and are completely and quickly biodegradable.
