Oh my god. Having a "holiday" in the middle of the week should be outlawed.
Remembrance Day was yesterday and the town was shut down and boarded up. Which is a good thing, respectful and the law here in Nova Scotia. But since we finally ushered in Sunday shopping many people are saying that we should allow businesses to open on Remembrance Day too. I know as a Realtor I'm not allowed to show houses, write offers, list houses, meet with clients or conduct open houses on Remembrance Day, which is fine with me.
However, when did they classify Tim Horton's coffee shops as essential services? Do we really need to skulk around the coffee shop after paying our respects at the memorial service?
I guess so, because that is the first place the hubby and I headed. I'd had a lousy nights sleep, couldn't stop coughing and was so tired I almost didn't go to the service. But it was a respect thing for me, and as an ex-service member myself and a military spouse, I couldn't see not going so we put the kids in the car and away we went. Sun was bright, wind was chilly, coffee was a relief... so maybe it is an essential service afterall.
But for the life of me, I spent all day yesterday thinking it was Sunday and all day today thinking it is a Monday. And then I remember it's really Wednesday and get all excited.
Getting my Christmas shopping done. I still have not bought anything for the boys yet. I seriously don't have a clue. Ben wants and IPod touch. How do Ipods work? Do you need to buy internet time? Can you put any song file on them or do they have to be downloaded from itunes? I've been looking at Ipod clones like microsoft Zune and wonder how they compare. Matthew wants a sleeping bag. That seems so boring to me. Really really really stumped this year for them. What's considered "sick" and "sweet" and "cool" this year for teen boys?
Got Ben's competition schedule for gymnastics yesterday. His first one is in January on Prince Edward Island. I called the hotel today and booked for two nights. Should be a nice little get away. They are thinking of bumping Ben up a level but I dont think he's ready for that. I imagine he'll compete at the same level as he did last year. Being the current provincial champ I imagine that will bore him silly...but he seems to be in between levels in terms of his skills, it may be too much of a stretch to bump him up. I guess it's up to him.
He's being challenged again in a couple of weeks for his spot on the 2011 Canada Games team. They'll hold a testing challenge/competition and they'll determine the team depending on results. They retest every 6 months. So although the Nova Scotia team has been chosen this early, it's by no means guaranteed until you pass all the challenges. He made the team a year ago and has been challenged 3 times since then and managed to make the cut every time so far. Final one will be in late 2010. Alot can happen between now and then.
