Van broke down and other stuff...pics behind cut.
We are experiencing the calm before the storm. Over the next 24 hours we're supposed to get over a foot of snow. It's so nice and bright and sunny and BEAUTIFUL out right now that it's hard to believe that we're going to be in the middle of a mess in a couple of hours.
Maybe the weather people were smoking wacky tobaccy.
The van has broken down for the second time in two weeks. The last time, hubby was able to make the repair himself and it only cost us inconvenience, time and money for parts. He'll take a look at it tomorrow and see what needs to be done this time. Hopefully he'll be able to take care of it again and it won't cost us too much. Hopefully it's repairable. The van is about 10 years old and has approx 270,000 kms on it. If we can just make it last for another year and a bit, we'll be mortgage free and can afford to get another van and make payments on it. As it is we COULD do it, but we would more than likely be living on credit until we could pay off the mortgage and then start putting that money on the debt we've run up because of van payments. I'd rather not do that. Plus with all the uncertainty in our economy...we're all poised for the worst fallout due to the US economy. No one yet knows for sure how it will impact us up here. I'd rather not add a van payment to our lives yet.
Since I work for myself and contract myself out to my boss and he is in Panama...I was able to stay home today and that enabled my hubby to take the car to work. Because we live in the boonies...there are no city buses out this far, so two vehicles is a must. I suppose if I get a call from someone who MUST see a house right NOW...I'll have to say no. C'est la vie.
Since I'm home sitting on my ass I decided to do some housework. Got laundry done. There is a toasty fire going in the woodstove. The house is nice and warm. I wanted to bring more wood in from the woodshed but my hubby has installed a new lock and I can't seem to find the key. I am beginning to think there must be a buried map leading me to the key or that I will need to sit cross legged and chant for enlightenment on where the key could be. Oh well, I tried. He'll have to do it when he gets home.
On my to-do list for today is to reinstall my digital camera software so that I can see if the replacement camera cord I bought on Ebay is really truly in fact a dud.
I also need to do some shopping for some dishes for my sister for Christmas.
And I intend to buy the rest of the Xanth series books by Piers Anthony for my youngest for Christmas. Time to order those online. Problem is that the older ones in the series (there are about 33 books in the series) are classified as rare and out of print. So, some of them are hard to find at a reasonable price. We don't mind used. But used and $50 is another thing.
It's such a gorgeous day. I have this urge to go caching but I can't because hubby has the car. How cruel is that?
Here are some pics of the family caching. I'll have to satisfy myself with that.
This is me, That Jones Thing and my sons, Pikachu Freak and Chatterbox12 with one of our first caches. In the swag there was a pair of those glasses with the fake nose and eyebrows, so I thought I'd model them. You will rarely see my youngest son (Ben) being serious in a picture...and he's true to form in this one with the goofy face.

To get to the cache there was a trail that went uphill to an old gold mine. Of course it was a sheet of ice. Going up was tricky. Coming down was impossible without ending up on your ass. We finally gave up and each of us slid down the hill on our butts. We did find the cache though. Sweet.

I like this picture of the kids together. It's one of the few without Ben making a goofy face. They both have their "treasure". Ben found a cell phone holder (he doesn't have a cell phone...so not sure why he wanted it) and Matt found a magnifying glass.

Hubby and the kids walking ahead of me. After the elusive cache. We finally found it but it took a long time. Nice way to spend some family time though.
That's it for now.
