Pics behind cut that my 12 year old (Ben) took.

I'm pretty sure that the rules of DePhoMo specify that the photos have to be your own.  I think some rules are made to be broken.  Because I need to find my happy place right now (vent to follow) I want to share these photos that my 12 year old son, Ben took over the summer.    He was bored one day, so I gave him my camera and sent him on a "mission" to find and take photos of as many different flowers or plants as he wanted to on the property.   I told him I needed them for something.  This is what he came back with.  I must say that I was surprised.  Pretty good for a 12 year old.

I've always loved pansies.  There are so many different colours and varieties.  I love seeing a bed of them in bloom, instant smiles.

These lilies grow in both my front and back yards, although more so in the back.  I wish they'd last longer than they do.  We call them our exploding banana lilies, although I'm not sure of their proper name.  Seems good enough to me.

I have no idea what this white flower is, it was just pretty in the store, so home it came.   I DO know that those are dandelions in the back and since our city has banned pesticides they've taken over.  Sometimes I mind...sometimes I don't.  Today I don't.

The mushrooms were found way on the back of our property where some pine and spruce trees grow and it's more mossy than grassy.  I like wild mushrooms.  I just want to leave that area alone.  Hubby would like to clear it out and grass it over.  T'would be a sin.

These are lady slippers and they are an endangered and protected plant here in Nova Scotia.  There is a fine if you are caught with a cut one.   When I was little these were scarce plants too and I remember my mother having a hissy fit when I picked about 50 of them and brought them home and put them in a vase for the supper table.   I didn't know.  I do now and I make sure the kids know this flower is to be protected.  I feel priviledged that it grows on my property and we check every year to make sure that the lady slippers are still blooming.

I love this plant.  I think it's called a Jacob's ladder.  It's not showy or colourful but I love the shape of it and the creamy flowers with the green.  These are one of the first to come out in my garden.

At first I didn't believe this picture.  It's a birds nest, with eggs.   It was located on the ground in the back yard about 2 ft from the back door.  I couldn't believe it.   Ben had to show me that it was actually there.  The number of times we went in and out that door.... why would a bird build a nest there?  We must have stepped over it a hundred times.

This next picture was taken out of order (by several days) than the rest but thought I'd put it next so that you can see the baby bird.  Once we discovered the nest we protected it as best as we could the rest of the season.  Sadly, one of the eggs got stolen by some animal.  Two birds hatched, and the other egg never did.   When the birds grew and flew away, we moved the nest but I am not sure if birds will ever use it again.

Lupins.   Common weeds here in Nova Scotia.  They are abundant, and hard to kill.  I purposely planted some in our ditch along the front of the property.  I just love them.    The cultivated ones are wonderful in gardens and are very low maintenance and hard to kill.  Perfect for me.

Haven't a clue what these are.  The grow in our front yard around the stump of one of the birch trees we lost during Hurricane Juan.  Pretty though, love the blue colour of them.

Plain old standby, the marigold.   We plant them on and near the spot that we buried the goldfish that the kids used to have.   At the time it was something to do to make the kids feel better..... now it's just a habit.  I don't even know if they remember the fish after all these years.   Down about 6 inches and buried in their little heart shaped boxes.  Oh the production we made of that.   When the Beta fish died years later, we just flushed them.   :-)

So, on to my rant.   I'd like to choke my father in law.  I'm sure alot of you havent read me and wouldn't know the history of the man.  There are one or two entries during our vacation in July/August of this year that you can read to get an idea, if you care to.   Long story short is that he tried to hit one of my kids because he believed one of them plugged up his toilet 3 days before.  Both of them swear they didn't do it.  Even if they did...so what?  Shit happens, so to speak.   Anyway, flash forward to a couple of weeks ago.  It's Christmas in a bit and the boys want to send their grandfather a gift card for Christmas.  They put it in a card, sign the card and mail it.   It was returned today unopened, the  Bastard.

Ok, gonna go look at the fleur photos again..find my happy spot.
