Fanfic Pimping Meme Stolen off Jess

"Sometimes it's okay to pimp yourself out. Post a list of your top five favorite fics that you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This is isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same. Everyone else in the world should do it..."

I don't actually have that many stories to choose from - 10 in all. I’m not very good at finishing the stories I start. xD Actually, speaking of that, a note: some of the stories that are going to be in this list are stories I love because of what they’re going to be and how much fun I’ve had planning and researching them, rather than what I have posted so far.

Now that that’s over with, the list - in no particular order because I suck at playing favorites.

The Best Team in East Anglia - A WIP that I’m actually currently working on, unlike, sadly, my other WIPs. This fic is so much fun for me, and honestly I think it’s going to be one of my better ones if only because I’m actually paying a lot more attention to characterization than I usually do - I’ve realized lately that I really am kind of lazy character-wise. Along with that, I kind of love writing about bits of the HP world that you don’t see a lot of - or anything at all of - in the books, and this fic completely centers around something like that: an amateur Quidditch tournament held during the summers in Norfolk and Suffolk. There has been much use of Google maps and much researching and for some reason this makes me happy deep in my nerdy little heart. I may be a Hufflepuff, but I have definite Claw tendencies.

Tales of Wildwood - Again, lots of research - cf. Best Team. Also with the writing about unfamiliar parts of the HPverse - in this case, eras. It’s going to jump around a lot, being more like a series of oneshots than an actual chaptered fic, but the two most prominent eras involved are during Merlin’s time (and thus King Arthur’s) and during the early 1700s if I remember correctly. This fic has been superrr stalled because it’s taking forever to write the first chapter, which has turned into two chapters and is a retelling of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight from the perspective of the Green Knight’s wife, who just so happens to be a witch. I absolutely love Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, you have no idea. My nerdy little heart loves using it in a fic. Also this is the fic where I’m letting myself do fun, flowery description.

Snow After Fire - I will admit, there is a lot of info crammed into some of those paragraphs. The reason for this is that I took the prompt for the Triwizard Tournament mini-gauntlet and went crazy with it. I lovedd thinking up the dragon reservation and everything to do with it. It’s actually an obscure canon location, which made me even happier than it being made up. Also, I can never think of the in-canon-nameless Romanian dragon reservation as anything but PDR (not writing out the full name, it has weird Romanian accents) anymore because of this fic. /fail

Suddenly a Stranger - It’s kind of a twin to another fic of mine called Half-Blood Prince in that a) it’s Marauder era and b) it came out of a random Eureka! moment. Honestly, I have to say that it is slightly autobiographical, but only in the whole “I thought he was a prat but something has happened to make my viewpoint change” thing. Of course the RL incident that inspired it was much less dramatic. xD I’m not entirely sure why I like this fic so much, except that it was just kind of fun to write.

The Mistake - Another one that was just kind of fun to write. Also, more love of obscure canon-ness. It’s the story of how the Fat Friar came to be a ghost, and I first started thinking about it for a TTB challenge on ghosts and it kind of snowballed. Admittedly a little weak characterization-wise, but I just kind of had fun thinking up a way for someone to become a ghost for a different reason than cowardice. Also, medieval-ness is always love. I have like three fics set at least partially in medieval times. xD

fanfiction, meme, snow after fire, the best team in east anglia, fanfic, suddenly a stranger, the mistake, tales of wildwood
