Feeling socky

I seem to have been overtaken by an urge to knit socks this year - no sooner had I finished the Opal Elemente pair, than I had another pair on the needles, this time in Sweet Georgia Speed Demon sock yarn, which is certainly living up to its name.

These look lovely! I get round ladders by always knitting a few extra stitches onto each needle, so that the gap between needles is not always in the same place, if you see what I mean.

I tried that, but I couldn't get my head round it - perhaps because I was knitting on four needles, not five. I'm finding this way much easier!

That Hipknits yarn is gorgeous! I like the way the short-row heel looks, too. I must try some different sock techniques; so far I've only done top-down with a heel flap.

I like my dpns!

It is lovely, I'm very pleased with it. It's not actually a Hipknits yarn, it's Canadian, from http://www.sweetgeorgiayarns.com/.

This heel method is very easy, especially if you use a stitch marker at each end, not in the middle as she says in the pattern - I put the marker after each slip stitch on the first half of the heel, removing and replacing it each time I turn, then put it after the turn each time on the second half. No counting required!

Thanks! I was lucky with the opals, the heel took just just about exactly two pattern repeats, so from the front you can't tell that the heel is there, iykwim.

Do have a go at this heel with a spare bit of yarn - just cast on a few more stitches than necessary, knit about four rows, then start on it - it's really very easy :)

Oooh, I like both.

Which reminds me. Must acquire Tiger sock yarn while I still can.
