“Just freaking open it."

"I can't. You do it.”

Though perhaps this was a conversation Wu Fan would've enjoyed elsewhere, in its current context it was one he found irritating to have.

So he snatches the thick white envelope from Junmyeon’s hands and holds it between his own long fingers, judging it silently before ripping it open with a single deft motion.

Wu Fan rolls his eyes as he unfolds the envelope's contents, seeing how much Junmyeon was shaking.

“W-what does it say?"

“It says you should start running, Junmyeon," he mutters, his expression dark and his tone as foreboding as he could make it.

Junmyeon opens his lips, his mouth dry and his voice stuck in his throat, but before the poor kid could start crying, Wu Fan shoots back the paper with a flick of his wrist, its line of A's all the way down the left margin clearly unbroken.

“Joking, of course."

Then he winces when Junmyeon's knuckles dig into his arm. "Don't do that to me, damn it!"

Then he's watching Junmyeon hold his marks up to his face, inspecting them with flushed cheeks and wide eyes, and though Wu Fan would rather he channel that intensity elsewhere he still smiles when Junmyeon sighs in relief, sitting back like he's escaped a death sentence.

“I don't get why this is that huge of a deal for you," Wu Fan says absently, chin in his hand.

“I don't get why it's not a huge deal for you."

Junmyeon stuffs his report card back in its envelope, while Wu Fan’s remains untouched at the bottom of his bag.

He’s not facing him, but he can see Wu Fan smirk from the corner of his eye.

“Oh, sorry. I forgot. You’re not really the type to care about something you need to put effort into.”

Wu Fan fakes offense, gasping and putting a hand to his heart. “Why, Kim Junmyeon. You don’t think hanging out with you all the time takes a lot of effort?”

Junmyeon scoffs. “It’s a future thing.”

“The future? What?”

“You know, the future! It’s about… about me graduating, and then getting into a good school and then getting my degree and then getting a job and-”

Here Junmyeon is interrupted.

Though, the kiss is softer than the usual "Just shut up" kiss. But only by a bit.

And it only gets stranger when it's Wu Fan who stops first, but only to inquire quietly,

“What about me? Am I part of this future of yours?”

Junmyeon pulls away and shrugs.

“I don’t think so. I’ll probably end up ditching you along the way, seeing as you’re only dragging me down…”

But then he’s smiling into Wu Fan’s scowl, and laughing every time their mouths part, only to come back together in a split second.

“Joking, of course.”
