“...dinner...check...soap...here...mm...what else what else what else...”
Donghae kept mumbling stuff as he checked his grocery bag if he had forgotten something since he had already bought stuff after he left from work. He also thought of walking even faster as he gasped from those droplets of water falling from the sky.
“Aish--!Milk!!”He mentally slapped his head as he almost forgot the most precious thing in the world. Good thing he knew the nearest convenience store located a couple of streets from his apartment. Donghae rushed inside the store and grabbed the nearest carton he could reach. Apparently, someone from his left grabbed the strawberry flavored milk of the same brand he would get. He bowed gently as he excused himself before facing that certain someone.
Donghae was slightly taken a back when he saw who the person was.
“O-oh it’s yo-...it’s you!” Donghae practically stammered due to his presence. His looks are just undeniably striking.
“y-you’re...okay...”
‘---Idiot’
Like his first encounter with Eunhyuk, still, he didn’t talk. He didn’t even face Donghae. He just absent-mindedly browsed through the shelves as if undecided on what he would buy instead. Donghae gave out a big fat sigh and rolled his eyes of off his wandering neighbor. Donghae blushed in embarrassment as he realized he was already stealing glances over the spaced-out guy across the store while he pays for his milk.
It was also late that he realized it was raining pretty hard outside. Donghae muttered his curses when he realized he hasn’t brought his umbrella.
Soon enough, Eunhyuk also walked outside the store and quietly observed the heavy pouring water from the sky while Donghae in opposite walked back and forth along the side, clueless of how can he get himself home from this sudden storm. The frantic guy suddenly stopped fidgetting in the corner as he saw the red-haired swiftly pulled his black hoodie up and silently walked outside the shed.
‘What the f---! Is he out of his mind?!’ Donghae in outmost hesitation still followed his crazy neighbor despite of the heavy rain that immediately soaked him after he had left the shed.
“What are you doing?!” He didn’t mean to shout. It’s the heavy rain that made him quite impossible to hear.
“Going home.” It was a slight murmur but Donghae swore to himself he heard him talk. Finally, he heard him talk. There was a slight pause from the said man, quite overwhelmed that his neighbor is human after all.
“You’re getting yourself sick.” Donghae continued.
“I know, and so are you.” He’s right. He thought. Why did he followed him at the first place?
Good thing the apartment is only a few blocks away making them soaked a bit less. As Donghae was about to enter his room, he noticed that his neighbor haven’t stopped pulling the insides of his pockets from the moment they had reached their apartment.
“Lost something?” Eunhyuk didn’t reply and continued seeking his pockets through his hands. Ashamed of himself, he doesn’t want to just look pathetic by telling Donghae he actually lost his keys along the way.
“You lost your keys don’t you?” Donghae widely parted his door and gave a welcoming gesture.
“You could spend the night here if you want.”
“I’ll just ask for the spare key.” Eunhyuk refused. He just can’t.
“It’s pretty late and ajumma might be sleeping already. Just ask for the spare key tomorrow.”
Donghae was very persistent and for some odd reason, Eunhyuk couldn’t just reject his offer, other than of course, the fact that if he chose to sleep in the hallway there is this great probability he’ll be dead by morning. Eunhyuk couldn’t deny his obvious trembling as cold air passes through his soaked body. He realized he really didn’t know where to go for the night. It’s raining hard outside and going home instead would be the most naive idea since their house is an hour long from the apartment. But then, there is his neighbor, kind enough to have him for the night.
Sometimes, it is trauma that had him paranoid to some extent. It’s been a while since he hadn’t had much social encounters. Being in an abusive relationship for 2 long years, it’s beyond difficult to just trust someone.
But in the end, he gave in.
-------========--------
“Hey, the shirt’s in the...” Donghae suddenly felt a clump of saliva blocked his throat as soon as he saw Eunhyuk coming out of the bathroom with only his black sweat pants on, hair dripping wet from the shower.
“...bed”
He couldn’t also help but to notice his lean yet delicate features and his pale white complexion patched with a few bruises and what he believes to be hickies---yes hickies all over. Donghae felt himself blush from embarrassment of perverted thoughts over this stranger and the fact that the gentleman from the other day and this person is indeed, together just, well, basing it from how fresh those hickies were. Well, at least for himself, he thought they were.
Donghae chuckled to himself. What’s happening to him?
Donghae also hasn’t forgotten to notice his bandaged left hand. It concerned him at once because of its apparent bulging appearance. It’s a new one he thought. He hasn’t seen it the last time he checked.
Involved in another brawl? He didn’t know but it made him wonder for a second how he had been living his life all this time.
Eunhyuk caught the other staring at his bandaged hand and hid it slightly at his back. “What happened with that?” Donghae pointed. “...If you don’t mind.” He pushed his injured arm further at the back. It took Donghae ages before he heard the person’s timid reply.
“Nothing. Got drunk. Had a fight by the end of the night.” Donghae couldn’t believe he heard him talked about it nonchalantly. That Siwon guy is indeed right. He never gets bored.
“Well” Donghae had him seated at the edge of his bed. “’You shouldn’t be binding that with a bandage. Wait here.”Donghae went back a few minutes with a cold pack at hand. He sat beside Eunhyuk and gently pulled his bandaged hand to his lap. This startled Eunhyuk through he didn’t hear himself protest. Donghae gently unwrap the swelling hand while assisting it with both hands. Eunhyuk felt a slight thud in his chest as he felt unfamiliar warmth embracing his injured hands. It felt warm and soft and gentle and almost...wonderful. Eunhyuk quietly observed the person beside him. He was a stranger to him, he wasn’t that very welcoming the first time they met---Eunhyuk knew to himself he was nothing but a piece of bullshit to this man like as Siwon told him so. But how come he was getting all this gentleness he was deprived of for a long time ago from a person he barely knows? It is something he didn’t understand.
“Ah-” Eunhyuk gasped from the sudden hit of coldness in his skin.
“I’m sorry, did that hurt?”
‘Hurt?’ He thought, quite amused. What could be more painful? He gently shook his head.
“Whenever you have this kind of injuries, just put cold compress such as this for at least half an hour. Then do the warm compress after. It helps reduce the swelling. Don’t bind it because swelling will just persist. You don’t want a glompy hand and sausage fingers do you?”
“But the best remedy for this would be of course...” there was a slight pause from Donghae and Eunhyuk swore he saw a tinge of redness on the other’s face. “...if you wouldn’t hurt yourself.” Before Eunhyuk could even think from that sudden gush of new sensations and feelings this person had been successfully making him all confused and overwhelmed, Donghae left his hand with a gentle squeeze.
“There, at least your hand could breathe.” The red-haired pulled his hands awkwardly from Donghae’s hold and muttered a slight “thank you” afterwards.
“So let’s have dinner shall we?”
“No, thanks. I’m good.” Eunhyuk declined the offer despite how incredibly hungry he was. His stomach had been empty since morning and a box of strawberry milk isn’t just enough fuel for the day.
“Nah, come on, I have a big take-out from work.”
“N-no. I’m okay.”
“Ugh!Seriously?”
And again, he gave in.
It is a good eat n’ burp dinner and both felt very satisfied despite of Eunhyuk being so courteous and all about the food. At least Donghae discovered his neighbor’s a sucker for pasta that’s for sure. All the tension in the room disappeared as the ambiance keeps getting comfortable by the moment. Well of course Donghae did make it possible by draining all his saliva out with all the talking while all he received were a few short words and some nods. But it’s okay with him. He kinda grew from the guy--- surprisingly.
Donghae let out a big wide stretch before lunging down on the couch.
‘the couch?’ Eunhyuk thought as he just found himself sitting with uneasiness at Donghae’s bed. “Wait, s-shouldn’t you be sleeping here in your own bed?”
“Hmm?” Donghae snuggled into the comfort of his comforter and smiled. “You’re my visitor so you should sleep there.”
“N-no the couch is completely fine with me.” Donghae gave him a playful smug before facing the other side of the couch. “H-hey...” Eunhyuk called back. “Uhmm...h-hey” Donghae couldn’t help but to smile on his back while hearing Eunhyuk’s voice developed a tone that somewhat suits a regular normal being. There’s a hint of coldness though he could only see hesitance overpowering him. The good thing was he could already get at least a tiny bit of emotion from him that’s for sure.
“H-hey...” Without looking back, Donghae spat out. “By the way, i’m Donghae.” Eunhyuk paused from his slight grumbling. Well, it’s funny how long they have been together and they didn’t even ask each other’s name out. Eunhyuk, though uncertain quietly introduced himself.
“I-i’m Eunhyuk”
“I know.”
‘H-how...’
Donghae stretched his neck back to take a peek on a quite startled fellow.“Whoa, don’t panic okay? I’m not a stalker if that’s what you think. I just heard it from your pal the last time you were here.” By that he winked to the guy before facing back. “Let’s sleep now okay?”
“B-but-“
“Good night Hyukkie”
‘Hyukkie...’ Eunhyuk was startled. It’s like ages ago since the last time he was called by his pet name and it felt very warming to the feeling. He slowly crept onto Donghae’s warm comforter and laid himself comfortably on the bed. Eunhyuk closed his eyes gently and sighed. For now, he didn’t give the slightest damn for another kind of pain he will experience tomorrow. All he wanted was a good rest. The bed wasn’t really that soft but then, for the longest time, he never felt this relaxed and secured. It’s like no one would harm you in your sleep. That no one would pound on you mercilessly that would almost rip your body in two. That no one would leave you on the floor almost lifeless after a long hour of beating and most importantly, no one would say I love you as how the person he used to love so much would painfully do. Now, he could sleep because he knows there is a strong barrier surrounding him.
For Eunhyuk, having this sense of security, even for the shortest time, hasn’t felt this amazing.
A/N:again i’m sorry...i’m out of my mind.this very micro-sized mind of mine( okay rhyme attack) is very occupied with plans on how to stalk sj throughout their stay.aish!!!XDD Comments are always loved!!<3
