★★★★★
heartwarming, heartbreaking, and utterly charming. whimsical, quirky, refreshingly honest, sincere. has really great storytelling, characters with depth, and just the right sort of poppy, light indie music that i'd forgotten i loved. the two leads were very believable, and felt very genuine in their acting. also, i've loved joseph gordon-levitt since his 3rd rock days, only i'd forgotten it until now.

alice in wonderland (2010)
★★★★★
can't go into this expecting classic 'alice,' because that it is not, but this was immensely enjoyable. definitely a benefit to know the original story, of course, to get all the references, but honestly, just twisty and quirky and fantastic.

bad lieutenant: port of call: new orleans
☆☆☆☆☆
maybe just not for me, but i could not find the merit in this one. atrociously slow pacing, and nicolas cage's character, while well-acted, just pissed me off the entire time.

prince of persia
★★★☆☆
i enjoyed this a lot more than i thought i would; watched it because my free movie passes were expiring and our choices were very very limited, lol. i didn't expect much because it was based on a video game, but it was done quite well, considering. and maybe i'm just dense, but i didn't guess who the real villain was until they revealed it in the plot; i was convinced, mmkay :).

when in rome
★★☆☆☆
watched this for kristen bell because my brother and i have this eternal undying love for her from our v. mars days, lol. nothing groundbreaking, but cute.

the expendables
★★★☆☆

shutter island
★★★★☆
really interesting plot, and the end was so twistyyyy.

the karate kid (2010)
★★★★☆
maybe it's in the genes; jaden smith can certainly act. he was totally likeable and believable in this movie, and i really enjoyed seeing jackie chan being given the chance to actually act and give depth to his character. the villains have the exact same accent as some of my esl kids, i swear, lmao, so i couldn't help but hear the more annoying ones in the midst of their douchery. the action sequences were, of course, cool cool cool, but i saw no karate, though there was obviously a kid involved. i guess "the kung fu kid" doesn't quite have the same ring to it, eh.

toy story 3
★★★★★
the perfect blend of touching, funny, and cute in an adventure story; this really is quite a masterpiece. i'll even admit that i teared up at the end, (which was just perfect, btw) and i'm not at all the type of person to cry over movies, okay.

despicable me
★★★★☆
so cuuuuute *___*.
"i need agnes to be a real girl - now!"

salt
★★★☆☆
angelina jolie being kickass and hot, as usual - check. twisty plot - check. nothing spectacularly mind-blowing, but still quite entertaining.

kick-ass
★★★☆☆

inception
★★★★★
again, joseph gordon-levitt ♥. and ellen page ♥. i mean, come on; it's an action film that makes you think, and i'm appreciating the cleverness of it all. the storytelling was really well done and the graphics were just superb.
