What they've uncovered so far...

What we have here is a glimpse of others' lives in millennia past. I can't even begin to describe how amazing this is to me. Plus, an extra chilling twist is added in that many of these people undoubtedly perished in the eruption. It really makes me think...all that we really have of our lives are a billion tiny snapshots, strung together...who can say when the last of them will be taken?
What we are left with here are the snapshots of some of the Roman Empire's rebellious, youthful, sex-crazed, and angsty citizens.
When it comes down to it, the things that people wrote weren't any different from the things that are written today! Take, for example:
"Satura was here on September 3rd", or
"Marcus loves Spendusa", or
"Atimetus got me pregnant".
It's all the same! Some consolation, I suppose, for those who think humanity is growing more foolish as time goes on :P
We are most assuredly NOT Devo, or Idiocracy, as humbling as that is to realize.
