Sometimes Ginny hated Fleur, or she tried. Days like this, when the sun was shining and caught the light in her hair made Ginny’s teeth set and her mind wander. It was wrong, oh so wrong, but all she could remember was how it used to be, even if it was secret. Long nights of talking about anything but bill, tentative affection that never went anywhere, though they both wanted it too.
Gabrielle knew, she could see it in those silver-blue eyes, so much like her older sister’s eyes.
She felt a cold knot of anger and fear tangled up with something she recognised from her first year of school, a feeling of worthlessness, like no one understood. She cried it all out to Gabrielle in one of the changing rooms while they tried on bridesmaid dresses, and Gabrielle said nothing, just listened to her cry and gently braided her hair.
Ginny felt like her mother had befriended the enemy after Fleur stood by Bill, and once while they were discussing her in the dining room, like she wasn’t even there, she snapped, slapping the petite blonde Veela. “Stop pretending you’re my sister!” She shrieked. “Go on and marry Bill, see if I care, but it’ll never be all right, and you’ll never be my sister!”
