dear yuletide author post!!! belatedly!!!
Well, okay, only a bit belatedly. (And I'm still not here. Except sometimes.) But! I am signed up for Yuletide this year (which will hopefully not lead to my demise) and that means I get to ramble about things that I like! My favorite!
First things first: yay you! You are writing something for me, and that is awesome to begin with. I really appreciate you, and your efforts, and honestly if there is something you want to write for one of the fandoms below that you think you can do ~awesomely~ but I have not talked about - go ahead. I like seeing what people do when they have room to roam as much as anything.
General likes - I like stories anywhere on the plot continuum from emotional porn to tightly-plotted suspense. I like dialogue, I am a shameless whore for hurt/comfort especially when there is more hurt than comfort. I like resolution but also like open downer endings. I have several very large recs posts at the top of this journal, if you are interested in seeing more about what I read. Honestly, my interests are pretty broad. The only things I might prefer to avoid this Yuletide are (aside from ones specifically denoted) PWP (often! just not this year really with one significant exception) and anything to do with babies. Because children are silly. I tend to prefer character-centric/driven stories over plot-driven, and I am a major sucker for character arcs, so if you have the room to pull off one of those, by all means, go for it.
I like to cry. Angst is almost always fair game, though I tend to not be a fan of anything overwrought - understated despair tends to be my preference. However! This is not to say that things that are on the sweeter end of things aren't welcome. They are. Just to know that I am pretty game for anything on the light to dark spectrum.
I always feel that I am going to forget important things I wanted to say in this post. But let's get into the specifics for my requests.
Nightwatch: My number number one request here is for Semyon backstory. I read these books about a year ago after it was too late to ask for this for Yuletide last year and I spent almost the entirety of the trilogy going WHERE'S SEMYON? WHAT'S GOING ON WITH SEMYON? Get creative, Yuletide Author. Give me a slice of his life from pre-series. Give me an origin story. Fuck, give me Semyon eating a bagel and playing board games and I will be happy as long as it suggests something about his character.
Other idea here if Semyon does not suit you - give me Gesar and Zabulon sitting down and having a very enigmatic and subtly animosity-full glass of wine together. I don't care what they talk about. These two clearly have such a History and I love banter and clever people of vaguely sinister motives bouncing off of each other. It's a thing.
Coldfire Trilogy: Damien/Gerald.
Post series fic where they meet up again. During series fic where they talk in the middle of the night. Any kind of fic where they eye each other and are wary and the air is full of UST and there is possibly eyefucking and maybe actual fucking. This is my exception to the PWP rule. Write me any kind of sexual situation with these two and I will offer up my firstborn child.
Extra extra bonus points for post-series fic, though, there is not nearly enough of it out there and never will be. (I would also love fic that gets me more into Gerald's head about the whole thing, because. Well. Yes.)
If you don't want to write slash, dear reader - give me fic about Gerald's long life. What did he get up to during time not covered by series? More interactions with his family members that he killed maybe? More on his headspace and thoughts? Honestly though, making fic for this series exist will quite possibly be more than enough for me, whatsoever it is.
Lymond Chronicles: Lymond and Richard’s relationship. I just love, in this series, how Richard goes back and forth between LYMOND OH MY GOD YOU'RE A TERRIBLE PERSON and LYMOND OH MY GOD LET ME HELP YOU PLEASE and Lymond meanwhile is still the same ball of nuclear level trust issues as always, and does not need help, nope, not from anyone, capable of making his own stupid choices thank you.
So - fic of this. Pre-series fic about how their relationship got to be the way it is. Richard POV at any point during the series - what he thinks of the mess Lymond's making of his life. The two of them having a talk post-series, maybe mending a few fences. Or, if antagonism is more your thing, any point where their relationship is less than amiable.
I just want fic of these two as brothers
Rai-Kirah Series: Aleksander POV. Or Aleksander and Lydia from Lydia's POV. OR GOD GIVE ME ANYTHING if it has banter and silliness in it. My only request here is for absolutely no rape/non-con. Not as an objection to the genre in general, more because this fandom already has a fair amount of that and what I loved about this series when I read it was the relationships between people - mostly on a purely platonic level. Aleksander and Aleksander's character arc, Aleksander/Lydia as a pairing (how does that go? how does it develop?), Aleksander's feelings during the time when it looks like Seyonne is going to die (or, hell, any of the times when). Anything involving Lydia at all (damn, girl). Lydia and Seyonne friendship fic? Lydia being an hbic?
Give me something with the relationships between people in this series, though, and I'll be happy. Bonus points in this fandom for emotions porn. Feel free to make me cry. I like that.
