Character Audition Questions:
Name: Miranda ‘Mira’ Sophia Montgomery
Age and date of birth: July 23, 1983 (Age: 21)
Physical Description: Mira is soft and feminine with a girl-next-door quality of pretty, especially as there's always a ready smile at her lips. She and her twin share their emotive blue eyes and fair complexion, but the similarities end there. Mira stands just a bit shorter than her sister at 5'5, is of the same slender build, has dark hair that lightens a bit in the summer from the sun, and clear, bright blue eyes.

Parent’s Allegiance: John Montgomery is from a long line of pureblood, Gryffindor Ministry men, and his wife, Scarlett, comes from the pureblood Rosier family. The Rosiers are traditionally Slytherin and known for dabbling with dark magic, and the family as a whole supported Voldemort. Scarlett was never disowned from her family for her decision to marry ‘beneath’ her and to the ‘wrong sort’ after eloping straight out of school, but she has been estranged from the Rosiers since she was seventeen. John is the director of the Department of International Cooperation, and both he and his wife Scarlett are Ministry supporters.
Personal Allegiance: Mira has never been overly involved in politics. She was fifteen and a Fifth Year student at Hogwarts when The War spilled into the school. She was not part of Dumbledore’s Army, but she was not against what they fought for, either. It was a frightening time, and her family suffered a great tragedy in the loss of her little brother to Fenrir Greybeck that year.
How do people perceive this character: People often wonder at the fact that Mira was placed in Slytherin. She is most definitely not what people associate with the house. Mira is friendly and sweet. She’s also very demonstrative; a touch here of comfort here, a hug there, and if you’re lucky, snuggles and nuzzles too. More often than not, she is mistaken for a Hufflepuff alum. Still, there is a bit of spice to her. She’s sassy, though it’s always unexpected to people who don’t know her well. Mira’s also got a temper. It’s often short-lived, but it can be quite volatile while it lasts. She’s also got the moral compass of a Slytherin, another unexpected trait. Some things are black and white to her, but much is in the grey area, and when it comes to those things, Mira’s loyalty rests with her family and those she loves and cares about, not some higher ideal or guiding rule or principle.

Greatest Fear: To lose anymore family.
Greatest Passion: her sister, her family, football, most especially Chelsea F.C., tinkering with creating new charms and manipulating old ones, and music.
Aspiration: To discover a new charm that makes a difference.
Greatest Postive Attribute: She’s very attentive and likes to care for and do small (and large) things for people. She’s discerning; Mira has a good sense of people, and she's very compassionate.
Biggest Fault: She can be quick to jump to conclusions and assumptions, especially when she’s upset or in a temper.
Happiest Memory: Too many to count. Mira could never choose out of all the happy memories she has with her family.
Most Painful Memory: When she found out that her little, six year old brother, Joshua, had been murdered by Fenrir Greybeck. Similarly, when she found out her cousin, Nate Rosier, had been killed by Death Eaters.
Does your character value the purity of blood: Not particularly though she's aware of it. One could not grow up in Slytherin and not be aware of it. Mira was never vocal about her apathy towards what kind of blood was important, however. Sometimes keeping one’s own council is the wisest course of action.
Is your character ‘pure-blooded,’ a ‘half-blood’ or ‘Muggle-born’: Pureblood.

Describe the character’s personal history:

Mira was born to John and Scarlett Montgomery on July 26, 1983, several minutes after fraternal twin, Cassandra. She is the third daughter born to the couple. Older sister, Alexa, is three years her senior, and little sister, Abigail, is five years the twins' junior and student at Hogwarts. Their only brother, Joshua, was born a year after Abigail and was the youngest of the family.

Mira was a precocious child; very smart, bright and full of smiles. Her and Cassandra were close, as twins often are, and the two did everything together. However, their interests and personalities were far from the same. Mira was very soft and snuggly while Cassie was more headstrong and independent. They complimented each other, though, and the girls have always been very close.

When the girls went to Hogwarts, Mira sorted into Slytherin. This was not so much a true sorting based on personality and character traits, but more on her choice. Cassandra was sorted first and she was placed into Slytherin, therefore when it was Mira's turn to sit on the stool, she was absolutely adamant that Slytherin was where she should be. Mira chose to be a Slytherin despite that her natural disposition would have put her in Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw.

Mira's extremely friendly, has a sweet demeanor and is always full of smiles. Slytherin was most definitely not a likely choice for her, and could have been a possibly miserable place for her to be given her nature and the nature of those who she was surrounded by, but Cassandra was very protective of Mira. Cassie always made sure that Mira wasn't bothered by bullies, or others that might prey on Mira's softer nature.

Despite the unlikely house placement, Mira was not unaffected by her time in Slytherin. She does have a sassy streak and is a bit wily. Her time in the dungeons encouraged growth in these areas, as well as the nurturing of a rather ambiguous moral compass. Family and those like family, first. That is how she navigates through tough decisions and situations, and sometimes that doesn't always mean that rules are followed.

While in school, she developed an affinity for Herbology. She loves helping things grow, and likes studying and learning magical properties of the green things she helps nurture to life. Mira had an affinity for Charms as well, and she's rather good at all sorts of them. It's a bit of a family passion; her mum, Scarlett, is the head of the Committee for Experimental Charms at the Ministry, and her twin is very interested in the subject as well, passionately so. Contrary to most the school's extreme interest, Mira doesn't like Quidditch that much. She'll go to a game, but considers the sport a bit tedious.

On the contrary, Mira is an avid football fan, especially Chelsea F.C. in London. The Montgomery's inherited Scarlett's parent's estate, Falcon Court, following the Second War and moved there the summer before Mira's Sixth Year. However, prior to that, the family had been located in a townhouse in the borough of Chelsea in London. Growing up, Mira can remember game days vividly; the streets were full, fight songs were sung, the crowd could be heard at the stadium. Mira was hooked.

In Mira's Fifth Year at Hogwarts, the Second War broke out in earnest and Hogwarts was under a type of military rule. It wasn't as bad for the Slytherins, though John and Scarlett pulled the girls out for the last few months of their Fifth Year after Joshua died. He was only five years old and had been hunted down by Fenrir Greybeck because the pureblood family refused to side with Voldemort. They were to be punished; Greybeck had always had a taste for the young, and the family suffered a devastating loss.

Time lessened the pain from the loss of their brother, and not too long later, she and Cassie graduated from Hogwarts. Wanting to further her studies, Mira applied and was accepted to the Magical Studies program at Oxford University. She's just finishing up her thesis in Charms Theory, and after serving as secretary to the Director of the MLE (Harry Potter), Mira's going on to be part of the Experimental Charms Committee with her Mother and twin sister to continue her research.
