Summary: Hangeng’s wedding day and Heechul is heartbroken. Until someone takes fate and pushes it in their favour.
Pacing around his hotel room, Heechul fiddled with the stupid rose that was fixed through his button hole of his jacket. He didn’t want to go out…He couldn’t do it. For Heechul it was like admitting defeat…giving up on the one person he’d ever loved. He took a deep breath as there was a knock at his door and a soft voice calling to him.
“Hyung…it’s me. Are you ready?” Heechul moved over to the door, slowly opened it to look at the smiling face.
“Come in Ryeowook.” He gave a fake smile and stepped back to let the younger into the room. Ryeowook smiled brightly as he walked in.
“Ah you look so good Hyung!” He laughed and nodded, reaching up to brush some of Heechul’s hair from his face. Heechul had opted to tie it up today with a small white ribbon around the hair band.
“Thanks…I don’t feel it…” Ryeowook stared at the older male. He recognised the sadness in Heechul’s eyes.
“Oh Heechul…I’m so sorry.” He mumbled, wrapping his arms around Heechul and pulling him into a hug. They stood embracing for a while, Heechul staring at the floor, refusing to let himself cry again. He’d already excused himself early from the pre-wedding party to lay in bed and just let his emotions wash over him, sobbing into his pillow as he realised he’d let the love of his life slip out of his grasp so easily.
“I can do this Ryeowook…I have to…He asked me to be his best man and I will do it.” He nodded and smiled a little, stepping back to move over to the mirror. Ryeowook smiled, admiring his Hyung’s bravery. If it was him having to see the love of his life marry some girl - Ryeowook was pretty sure he’d just feign illness on the day or just stand and sob the whole time.
“Come on then Heechul…You need to be there ready to walk up the isle with Hangeng.” Ryeowook smiled softly, petting Heechul’s cheek gently before pulling away. Heechul took a shaky breath before heading out and down to where the wedding was being held in the main hall of the hotel.

In Hangeng’s dressing room.
“Come on Hangeng! You look like you’re going to be sick!” Kangin laughed softly, reaching over to straighten Hangeng’s tie for the fifth time in the past ten minutes.
“Ah sorry…I’m so nervous though. The wedding was already called off three times…I just start to question it. Did you hear what Siwon said to Donghae last night?” Hangeng lifted his head, looking at the younger male with a lost look in his eyes as Kangin shook his head. “It started raining and Siwon said ‘Donghae…you know that means that the Lord is sad and this wedding is wrong’ I don’t think I was supposed to hear since he whispered but…I still did.” Hangeng sighed heavily. Siwon’s words had rang through his mind all night as he’d laid in bed, rolling around on the soft mattress trying to sleep. One face kept creeping into his mind but Hangeng pushed it away. It was a lost dream…just a distant memory.
“Aish…stupid Siwon. I’ll have to talk to him.” Kangin smiled softly and stood up, stretching his legs as he took a sip of the champagne him and Hangeng had been secretly sharing to calm Hangeng’s nerves.
“Kangin what if he’s right? What if this wedding is wrong?” Hangeng took a deep breath, he loved Ye-Chi…right?
“I’m sure it’s not. Other wise you wouldn’t have tried three times before. Fourth time is the last - I’m sure it’ll happen this time.” Hangeng nodded slowly, looking at his reflection quietly. It was right. Him and Ye-Chi were meant to be. It was perfect. She was a cute Chinese girl, just as his parents had always hoped he’d marry and she was an amazing cook. Always full of gentle touches, kisses and loving smiles. Yet something was always missing…something just didn’t feel completely right to Hangeng. He had an idea what it was but…he thought he was just being dramatic for no reason.
A knock at their door made both males jump, Kangin moved to answer it.
“Oh! You shouldn’t be here! It’s bad luck for Hangeng to see you before the wedding.” It must be Ye-Chi…Hangeng took a breath and stood up, ready to leave through the back door if Ye-Chi needed to come into this room.
“No…I need to speak to him Youngwoon. Please let me.” Something sounded wrong with her voice…Hangeng waved a hand for Kangin to let her in. As she walked into the room, Hangeng gasped at how beautiful she looked in her white wedding dress. He smiled softly as Kangin left.
“You look so beautiful.” Ye-Chi nodded slowly and looked up at her fiancé.
“You look pretty good yourself Hannie.” She said, her usual soft voice making Hangeng smile again. He was sure he loved her…This was the right thing.
“What’s wrong Ye-Chi?” He asked, sitting down again as she walked over, taking both of Hangeng’s hands in her own delicate hands, curling her fingers over his.
“This is…We’re wrong.” She whispered, fixing her eyes on Hangeng’s, the latter felt the colour draining from his face.
“W-what…what’s wrong?” Ye-Chi smiled.
“I love you Hangeng. But you’re not mine…Your heart isn’t mine.” Hangeng stared silently at the woman for a moment, he was expecting tears in her eyes. Instead he saw trust and love. But…she was right…As much as he loved her, he knew a certain someone already held his heart tightly in their grip - whether they were aware of it or not.
“I love you Ye-Chi…Why are you saying this?” Hangeng blinked, clearly confused by why she was suddenly saying this.
“I should have asked you to marry me long ago. Maybe we missed our chance…But if you marry me today, you’ll always be looking over your shoulder, never be happy…I just want you to be happy Hangeng.” Ye-Chi nodded and stood up, stroking a hand lightly over Hangeng’s cheek before moving to the door. “You should go and be with the one you really love.” Hangeng smiled, he was so glad he met Ye-Chi. They’d started as friends and gradually fallen in love, and now she was giving up her own happiness just so that Hangeng could be happy.
“We’ll still be friends, right?” Hangeng asked hopefully as Ye-Chi smiled and nodded.
“I should hope so.” Hangeng stood up, smoothing his shirt down before looking over to the door.
“What will we do about everyone in there?” Ye-Chi shrugged and leaned up to press a kiss to Hangeng’s cheek.
“I’ll handle it…you go and wait in your hotel room.” Hangeng smiled brightly and nodded, heading to the door, pausing to look over at Ye-Chi.
“Thank you.” They smiled at each other for a moment before Hangeng slipped out of the room and ran up to his hotel room without being noticed.

“What?! The wedding’s off?!” Leeteuk’s voice rang through the hall, members of both families gasped and began chattering nervously, confused as to what was happening. Ye-Chi nodded as she stood at the end of the isle, gripping the microphone between her hands.
“I’m so sorry for all the trouble this has caused. Especially for Hangeng’s friends who had to fly from Korea to be here with us. But…we decided it just wouldn’t work…I hope you respect our decision. We’ve decided to stay friends though.” She nodded and smiled brightly, dismissing everyone before she turned and took hold of Heechul’s elbow.
“He needs you…Please go to him.” She whispered, pulling a very confused Heechul into a hug. “His heart is yours. Not mine.” Ye-Chi admitted, nodding before pulling back, smiling at Heechul. Staring at the woman before him, a small smile broke over Heechul’s lips.
“Thank you.” He whispered, kissing the back of her hand before running out of the hall, frantically trying to remember which room was Hangeng’s. He remembered Leeteuk had mentioned Hangeng was staying in the honeymoon suite on his own so they didn’t spend more money on other hotel rooms.
As he reached the double doors of the honeymoon suite, Heechul was practically out of breath, he’d ran the whole way. He didn’t want to risk loosing a minute with Hangeng…especially now he could have him to himself. But he wouldn’t rush it…no he’d play it casual like Ye-Chi hadn’t said what she had to him. Lifting a trembling hand, Heechul knocked on the door rapidly, pretending to act worried.
“Hannie? Are you in there? Come on open up, it’s Heechul…what’s going on? Ye-Chi says the wedding has been cancelled!” He called through the door, knocking again before he heard shuffling inside the room then the door slowly opened.
Heechul smiled softly as his eyes landed on Hangeng, still in his suit - looking as beautiful as the day Heechul had first set eyes on him.
“Yeah…we decided…it just wouldn’t work.” He let Heechul into the room and closed the door behind him. Hangeng was itching to throw his arms around Heechul and finally claim those lips he’d so often dreamed of kissing.
“I’m so sorry Hangeng…If there’s anything I can do…tell me.” Heechul nodded, amazed at his own acting skills as he wrapped his arms around his friend and hugged him close. He took a deep breath, inhaling the soft scent of Hangeng mixed with some aftershave that Heechul usually complained about when it turned their shared bedroom into a gas chamber.
“What happened Hangeng?” Heechul asked as the two sat on the balcony of the hotel room, both cradling cups of coffee in their hands, watching all the wedding guests leaving.
“She knows I’m in love with someone else…I guess I knew but ignored it since I thought my feelings were never returned.” Hangeng sighed softly and shook his head. “Life is so difficult sometimes.” Heechul reached over to place a comforting hand on the other’s shoulder.
“It’ll be okay. I’m sure this other person loves you as much as you love them…Anyone would be crazy to not love you.” Heechul chuckled and shrugged, taking a sip of his coffee. A silence settled over them both before Hangeng looked at Heechul.
“It’s you.” He said bluntly, no longer wanting to keep up the shy act. Heechul was within his grasp and he had to tell him or he’d never do it. Heechul smiled and shook his head.
“You must be crazy. Why me?” He tried to hide the blush building on his cheeks, keep up the usual ‘uncaring’ Heechul act.
“You’ve always stuck by me, you always protected me when I had issues with racism at school. Even when my visa was going to be cut short, you gave me half of your life-savings to pay for it…Just so I could stay in Korea longer with you. I think I fell in love with you when I realised I couldn’t handle life without you…” Heechul smiled softly, placing his coffee down and standing calmly, walking over to stroke Hangeng’s cheek lovingly. He paused before leaning down and pressing his lips softly against Hangeng’s, his heart pounding in his chest at the feeling of the other finally kissing him. Heechul gave a soft moan and sat on Hangeng’s lap, winding his arms around Hangeng’s shoulders. The kiss was slightly needy, but full of so much love and emotions that it brought tears to Hangeng’s eyes. Eventually they pulled apart, Heechul keeping his eyes closed as he rest his forehead against Hangeng’s.
“I love you Chinaman.” He laughed lightly, opening his eyes to admire the brown eyes staring back at him.
“I love you too princess.” Hangeng smiled, kissing Heechul’s lips softly. A weight felt like it had been lifted off of both male’s shoulders and Hangeng’s heart finally felt whole again…Heechul was in his arms and that’s all he needed.
