Will Yesung have the courage to tell Ryeowook how he feels? Even if Ryeowook is in love with someone else?
Yesung could indulge himself in hours of staring at Ryeowook. The small gestures that Ryeowook would do easily captivated him to no end. The way Ryeowook’s hands would clasp together resting in his lap as he calmly listened to music, to the television, or even to Yesung himself.
Ryeowook’s smile was what Yesung really loved to watch. First there’d be a small raise to the lips, and if urged, Yesung would be rewarded with a flash of his beaming teeth and the quiet melody of his soft laughter.
But Ryeowook’s heart was captured by someone else.
“Hyung, I’m so glad Kyuhyun’s back. And I think I’ve mustered up the courage to finally tell him how I feel!”
Yet no matter how much Yesung’s heart would twist, he would still plaster on a smile and force out words of support.
“Oh?! So are you going to do it tonight when he comes?”
Ryeowook nodded with one of those smiles that would cause Yesung to gulp.
“But I have the best way of doing it!”
“Oh? How?”
“Well I’ve been working hard on this song. So I thought I could tell him that I have a new song for him to hear.. Do you want to hear it?”
Yesung’s chest tightened up but he nodded anyway.
“Okay! Come come hyung!” Ryeowook tugged Yesung to the piano and sat him down on the bench next to him.
Ryeowook placed his hands on the keys and played the first notes, but immediately stopped and briefly shielded his face with his hands from embarrassment. “I’m nervous just playing it for you. I can’t imagine how I’ll be with him.”
Another fake smile. “Don’t worry. Anything you play will be amazing.”
Ryeowook smiled and nodded as he lowered his hands back to the piano. This time he did not laugh.
“Each and every day,
Through rain or snow
The sun is always shining down on me
Like your smile, it warms my heart.”
Yesung felt himself drowning in the image of Ryeowook’s fingers gracefully sweeping along the keys, and the sound of his immaculate voice floating throughout the room.
“Hearing your voice
Sing words of forever love,
Makes me yearn for the day
That our love will never end.
Now I have the courage,
There’s no more fear,
To tell you what’s in my heart
That lives for your smile brighter than the sun.”
Yesung’s skin tingled with a desire telling him that this was the song of his own heart. A song for Ryeowook. But as his heart always seemed to be hurting these days . . .
“So will you spend each and every day with me,
Not in rain or snow,
But in the unending warmth of the sun. . .
…Kyuhyun.”
The last notes of the piano faded out, and Yesung could feel Ryeowook’s eyes on him. Ryeowook wanted to know what he thought . . .
“Just like I said… amazing. He can’t say no to that.”
*~*~*
But Yesung was wrong.
“I really thought he would say yes.”
Yesung soothingly held Ryeowook in his arms, slowly running his hand up and down the other’s back in a comforting manner. He could feel the front of his shirt dampen as Ryeowook’s shoulders shook with each set of tears.
“I thought so too.”
Finally Ryeowook pulled slightly away, his nose a faint red, and his lashes wet with unfallen tears. Yesung gently wiped them away.
“He said he wasn’t ready for anything yet.”
The way Ryeowook’s bottom lip quivered made Yesung just want to kiss him. Of course he wouldn’t though.
“So are you just going to wait until he is ready?”
Ryeowook sniffled then looked up to meet Yesung’s caring gaze.
“I’ll wait a little while.”
Yesung nodded once then glanced away. Did he have the courage?
“I think next time I’ll have an even better way of asking him. Maybe I can-“
“Ryeowook, spend each and every day with me.”
“-with a treasure map leading him to me- hm? What’d you say hyung?”
Ryeowook blinked up at him raising both eyebrows with curiosity. Yesung knew the other hadn’t heard what he said for he was talking about Kyuhyun.
…Heh.. No.. He really didn’t have the courage. But he knew that he would wait forever for Ryeowook.
“Nothing.. nothing at all.”
