Challenge: here

Donghae was staring at him. The cup of coffee Eunhyuk had prepared for him was left untouched on the table, already cold. He suppressed the shuddering nervousness from rising to another notch within the pit of his stomach. Where was Eunhyuk when you needed him?

"... you're Kim Kibum" Donghae said. He was the first to break the earie silence and leaned forward to inspect his face more.

He nodded wordlessly, glancing to his left at the clock and brought his cup to his stiff lips for a sip. Where was Eunhyuk and his snacks?

"You've been staying with Eunhyuk for a while,"

"... yes," It was no use lying to his friend's lover when he kept staring at him with those dark eyes that seem to glow under the fluorescent light.

Lee Donghae was really attractive... it's a shame he was already attached to Eunhyuk.

"How long have you been sharing his bed?"

If he hadn't stopped drinking he would have spit the coffee into Donghae's face for the untimely question. He lost his footing though, almost hitting the table with his head. "I--we--he--I didn't sleep with him if that's what you're asking. I took the couch even when Hyukjae insisted on the bed,"

For some reason his answer came out strange even in his own ears. It showed on Donghae's face as it paled under his revelation. Eunhyuk was going to kill him if he finds out he was the reason Donghae broke up with him.

"Look, Donghae, he is an old classmate of mine. He just happened to find me outside my apartment that night,"

"What were you doing outside your own apartment?" was the suspicious question as Donghae eyed him distrustfully, clearly unconvinced that Kibum didn't have ulterior motives at all.

Kibum let out a sigh. "... my roommate had invited some friends over. I didn't want to be a bother to them so I just went out and chose a random building to hide in from the freezing cold,"

"You could have gone to a 24/7 coffee shop, you know,"

"There are no 24/7 shops in this prefecture,"

Donghae blinked twice and leaned back. "Oh,"

Kibum wondered if the worst had already passed, now that Donghae was staring off into space. Eunhyuk did warn him about his lover's unusual habit from time to time. As if he could no longer bear the reality that the ground was under his feet and the sky was high above his head. It was really... cute. He rested his cheek gently on his palm, watching Donghae and did not resist the amused smile from appearing on his face. Just too cute.

Two days after their uncomfortable meeting Donghae cornered him against the wall to steal a kiss while Eunhyuk was in the room and then ran into Eunhyuk's arms, snickering and laughing, "Your friend is so cute,"

033. Flirt (Yesung/Kibum)
Companion piece " Accents" | PG | Friendship/general | 1,140 words

Being the eldest in the group, it's natural that Yesung takes the lead in his hands, automatically heading responsibilities over his shoulders. It's not a matter of easy power to control the younger members in his group of four. Neither is it a way to breed that inkling egoistic side of his that hungers on his pride to be the best.

The thing about taking the lead is the work he is required to do; the almost 24/7 work that seems to suck all the energy from his body and recharge it all at the same time. Plan, divide, work out, direct, advice--everything all at once. Of course, things don't always go his way.

His younger group mates are one of the main reasons why his plans get thwarted this easily. Shindong has a lot of extra curricular activities after school like dancing, guiding, debating and some more he didn't bother to find out. Shindong's continuous participation in said activities usually requires him to skip group meetings. But at least the guy does his homework, submitting his part the next day with a formal apology for his many absences.

Then there's this Sungmin, who has more nieces and nephews to take care of than his siblings put together, leaving him almost no time to analyze his part of the job. His eyes look awfully red and baggy these recent days, Yesung notes in an afterthought.

He could say he same for Kibum, the last and most highly expected member in his group. The guy is working on almost three wholly-different projects: the group project, the finishing analysis for his Marketing class and the large, ever-so-fearsome graduate thesis.

Sometimes he feels pity for the guy undergoing so much stress, but other times he is annoyed with the kid's ignorant attitude towards their project.
With an almost disgusted glare, he takes in Kibum's rather miserable state--hair sticking out, reddened eyes staring on and off, complexion all paled, messed up uniform.

Shindong, who has finally managed to find the time to attend group meeting number ten, catches on his irritation and leans forward to whisper something into his ear. "He's having a hangover from last night,"

... ah, that's right.

He watches Kibum write halfheartedly write gibberish on a piece of paper, while Sungmin massages his temples now and then, passing him a glass of water--Kibum is almost like a baby. A defenseless baby.

"Who ordered beer for him last night? I don't recall Kibum asking for a drink when I took your orders,"

"I wouldn't know. He did go off on his own when you were in the restroom,"

He remembers the flashing lights in the dark room, swirls of cigarette and cigar smoke hanging in the air and lots and lots of warm bodies mashed together to dance the night away. He had invited the group to hang out at a newly-opened bar down his street and told them to loosen up.
Sungmin pats Kibum's head like an assuring brother, shushing the other to lie down just for a moment and sends Yesung a worried look. He later joins them not long after leaving Kibum to rest on the table, fisting his hands to suppress the tension that threatens to spill out in the open.

"Hyung, I think it's best we round up our meeting without Kibummie. At this rate, we won't be able to complete our project before Friday,"

"How is he? Still a headache?" He asked.

Sungmin creased his eyebrows. "No. More like a heartache to me,"

He feels himself blinking and staring at Sungmin. "Heartache?"

"I already gave him aspirin and clear water for the dizziness this morning, hyung, so that can't be an excuse. Plus, he even said he is having a different kind of headache," A thoughtful look crosses Sungmin's tired expression. "Maybe you should go talk to him, hyung,"

"... why?"

"Since you're already in a relationship with Ryeowook. Maybe he needs some advice, you know, -that- kind of relationship,"

Shindong is strangely silent besides him. The way his face clears up so suddenly is enough to say he's all for it as well.

--

"Hey...," Yesung sits down on the chair Sungmin had abandoned a few minutes ago and looks over to Kibum's hunched form. "... is something bothering you, Kibum-ah?"

The guy lifts up his head from his folded arms with teary-red eyes. "Hyung," Just like a baby.

He resists the urge to ruffle Kibum's tousled hair, instead folding his hands on his lap. "Sungmin said you're in the middle of a crisis, the matters of your heart-,"

Kibum stares at him. His mouth opens to say something.

"-before you say anything, let's analyze your situation, Kibummie. This is very important, seeing you in this state I'd say you're in denial of something or someone. Must have been a great shock to you. You're fighting something that's out of your hands--an invisible, annoying force that directs you that way," He points into a random direction. "At night, when you lay snuggled in your bed, you can't sleep a wink. Somehow the ceilings above your head is suddenly so interesting to admire,"

Kibum stares at him as if he's gone crazy.

"Your stomach feels strange every time you try to eat, drink or even walk around. Isn't your stomach soaring around? You wonder at some point-,"

"Hyung, what are you-?"

Yesung raises a hand to stop him. "Let me finish, please. This is important. If you really, really, really like this person so much, release this tension and embrace the wind,"

It starts with a few shuddering breaths and some shaking shoulders before a laugh escapes Kibum's parted lips.

"Hyung," he says between breaths out. "What are you saying?"

Yesung grabs the boy's hands, sandwiching them in his smaller ones and squeezes.

"Kibummie, it's not a laughing matter," He says with a serious look on his face. "I know you're hurt inside-,"

"So what exactly are you suggesting, hyung?" Kibum cuts him off, amusement evident in his hazy eyes.

"Go flirt, I'd say,"

Kibum almost slips out from his chair and stares wide-eyed at him. "What?"

"Like I said. Flirt with that person you like--wait. Don't tell me you don't know how. Just flash your smile and say something cheesy to that guy,"

The smile disappears in an instant. "How did you know?"

"... honestly. I did see you climb over this cute guy last night--I thought my eyes were playing tricks with me so I dismissed it. It's that guy?"

Kibum lets out a mortified groan as he hides his red face in the cradle of his arms.

---

Sungmin peers at Kibum's hunched form with curiosity, "What did you tell him, hyung? His face is so red. Is it the birds and the bees again?"

"Heh. He wishes,"
