Thirty Days of Doctor Who meme: Day 3
Day 03: Your Favourite New Series Episode
THIS IS SO HARD, YOU GUYS. How can I just pick ONE? I'll do a Top Five like Catey's done. Let it be known that any episode excluded in this is list does not mean that I don't love it. It's just that it so happens right now these are my favourites.
5. Amy's Choice
Welllll, my favourite ep of Series 5! Domestic AND alien at the same time. Amy/Rory love! Guilty Doctor! I loved it alllll.
4. Army of Ghosts/Doomsday
THIS MADE ME CRY BUCKETS. Just look at their faces. Best acting of the series, hands down. My heart shattered to pieces (and now looking back, Rory "dying" didn't even come close to the amount of heartbreak found in Doomsday).
3. The Fires of Pompeii
BECAUSE DONNA NOBLE IS AWESOOOOMMMMMME. This was such a marvellous episode, and I will always remember that RTD rewrote a huge chunk of this even though he's not credit in the titles. Ancient Rome, the Doctor blowing up Pompeii, huge Time Lord-y angst and guilt and rage, Donna being so Donna-like, and the Doctor saving Donna using a water-pistol. (I bloody love you too!) And my favourite scene in this ep was the one where the Doctor and Donna were stuck in that escape pod under Vesuvius, and they were gonna blow up the pod AND Vesuvius AND themselves to kingdom come without knowing that the pod would keep them safe. When Donna put her hands on the Doctor's and they silently agreed to push the button .... guhhhhh. Gets me every time.
2. Tooth and Claw
But then, when I look back on them now ... in a way, an episode like Tooth and Claw feels quite a special one, to me, because that's the first time that I though, I kind of know where I'm going now. That was the fourth episode we shot ...... but [this] was the one where I finally thought I was sort of channeling it a bit. I kind of knew where I was going, and what the parameters were, and I was beginning to feel free within it, I suppose." - David Tennant, DWM416
This ep was where the whole Ten/Rose fun-yay-joy-adventure-squeeage was most evident, which is why I like it so very much. And David was feeling his way better as the Doctor, hurrah. Plus, werewolves and Queen Victoria! And David's Scottish accent!!!
1. The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit
I love the story, I love all the characters, I love the fear of the Beast, I love the angsty separation of the Doctor and Rose. And hurrahs all round for all the Doctor/Rose hugs, kisses and smiles that lights up the entire place. More cheers for the fact that Russell AGAIN rewrote large chunks of these (thank goodness, or Rose would've been possesed by the Beast yah??) and that it was THE final eps to be filmed in Series 2. The whole 'stuff of legend' scene was the last to be shot and everyone on set just blubbered after 'Cut!' because David and Billie blubbered.

My copy of an Eleven/Amy/Rory DW novel has arriiiiiiived. It's a bigger size than the books from the previous series and with a bigger font (I feel like reading a children's book!). It is called 'The Glamour Chase' and its written by Gary Russell, who also wrote Beautiful Chaos (adventure with Donna) which I loved, so I thought I'd give this one a try. Got it 25% off because I pre-ordered this. I haven't started reading it though, because I still have a backlog of library books to finish. But I flipped through to a random page and this just made me laugh:
Baaaaaaa
'Quiet, Rory. I'm talking to a sheep.'
'Doctor ...'
'I'm in sheep dip, Rory, aren't I?'
'Yup.'
'Why am I in sheep dip, Rory? No wait, it doesn't matter, I don't care. Because I reckon that whatever answer you give, I'm not gonna like it much. And neither of us will come out of any subsequent discussions on the subject particularly well, am I right?'
'No, Doctor.'
'Where's Amy? How come she's not in sheep dip? She always knows how to deal with me in situations like this. Me. Sheep dip. Bad smells.'

'And you, frankly, Mr Sheep, aren't helping matters much.'
