Glass in the Trees
I don't want to come back here, to this place.
It's a cold that only comes from blaming yourself for two decades wasted.
And I don't want to come back here, to this place.
When it all just repeats in my head again, and I cannot stop it.
And the glass in the trees, and all you left here,
Reflects everything that I missed.
And the pavement is still warm from the tires.
I can still feel the fright that the night brings.
Every song that you'd sing.
And I won't ever come back here to this place.
All I ever do is picture you smiling, and then picture you leaving.
And the glass in the trees, and all you left here,
Reflects everything that I missed.
Slow down.
I'll try and make it up to you.
They've cut down the trees to try to forget you.
But I took a vow to never forget you.
If you're still here, then we're waiting.
We'll wait for you to come back home to the broken little foes.
Until the guilt grows and grows.
When the time that's wasted comes back to haunt me.
And I'll deserve every bit. because I'm not spiritual yet.
I'm just reading the lines they gave me from the pulpit.
And it's not fading off, we remember the years.
As we sift through the laughter to find all the tears.
And I'm not worthy of grievance, I did nothing to prevent this.
And standing at your grave, I could have caused this.
Wendy Says
~did i ever tell you of this fear i had? ok i'd hate it if i got into a fight with someone i really, really cared about, and just felt GUILTY about it, but too much pride to apologize~ and then have that person die without knowing how i felt. And i can sorta feel that happening in this song.
"I don't want to come back here, to this place.

And I don't want to come back here, to this place.

~ the MAIN idea here is him visiting the death site of someone important. a friend i suppose. and although it's been years, he still blames himself. the death was through a car crash, and if they were in a fight or something, he/she [the driver in the crash] would be too anxious to drive, thus = crash.
"And the glass in the trees, and all you left here,
Reflects everything that I missed."
~Glass from the car, flying into the tree that it crashed in. "reflects-" a DOUBLE ENTENDRE! [hahn hahn lmao sorry i had to add it] reminding him of that person.
"And the pavement is still warm from the tires.
I can still feel the fright that the night brings.
Every song that you'd sing.
And I won't ever come back here to this place."
~ok, after many years the pavement aint gonna warm anymore. but its him expressing that it seemed like yesterday, or something... not that corny lol. Same idea in that second line, "i can still feel the fright" because it doesnt seem so long ago.
"All I ever do is picture you smiling, and then picture you leaving."
~i guess you could say, "smiling" = before the breakup/fight; "leaving" = after, then the dying and such :P
"I'll try and make it up to you."
~ah, the "its my fault you're dead" idea. there's no way he can make it up to someone who's not there, but he can atleast not make the same mistake twice right?
"They've cut down the trees to try to forget you.
But I took a vow to never forget you."
~i think that's pretty clear, unless it's a metaphor. i'm assuming there actually IS a tree. unless the tree represents something intangeable, which i doubt. nobody wants glass in their trees eh?
"If you're still here, then we're waiting."
~he/she's not there, you can't wait for someone who's not there.
"We'll wait for you to come back home to the broken little foes.
Until the guilt grows and grows."
~err... i'm not so sure about this one. could he be addressing himself as a "broken little foe?" but the guilt part is a given...
"When the time that's wasted comes back to haunt me.
And I'll deserve every bit. because I'm not spiritual yet."
~the time between death and now is "wasted time" because he never stopped thinking about it. and since he blames himself, he deserves such torture. i donno about the spiritual part, help
"I'm just reading the lines they gave me from the pulpit.

And I'm not worthy of grievance, I did nothing to prevent this.
And standing at your grave, I could have caused this."
~at the funeral he was responsible for the eulogy, and while reading it he still recalls everything. but he feels he doesnt deserve to be giving the eulogy of the person who's death is his own fault. and WHOA i didn't read the last line until now and apparently i'm right about the "blaming himself for causing his death" part ahahaha.
IN CONCLUSION
not a mainstream band, not a popular song, but i really like it. i'm sure no one's heard of it til now, but oh well. so if you have the time, download the song at the top of this entry, give it a listen, read those lyrics and argue the interpretation, add to it, or whatEV
until next week~ bai! <3
