Band photos: All is revealed

Apr 21, 2007 21:41

1) The Soft Boys. Identified by no one. No one! Shame on you! And don't come crying to me with
"I knew who they were, I just didn't have time to post a comment". Yes, tofty, I'm looking at you here.

2) The Futureheads. Identified by no one. No shame there.

3) Pete Doherty with Wolfman. The song that turned up and made me put in this photo was "For Lovers".
Several people (spacedye_vest, rochefort, and ourmutualfiend) identified Pete and/or Babyshambles.

4) The Who. Easy-peasy. Identified by jillsjourney, spacedye_vest, coco_palmolive,
louiselux, rochefort, and ourmutualfiend. God, I love Roger Daltrey's voice.

5) Right, this one was totally obscure. Translator. Does anyone remember a song called "Everywhere That I'm Not"? Anyone?
What's worse is I couldn't find a decent photo of the band in their heyday so this is their "we're reuniting to try to make some money off the 80s revival" look.

6) Big Star. Identified by spacedye_vest and rochefort.
And as I said to Rochefort, they're such 70s foxes! Look at Jody Stephens (in the middle)! A fox!

7) The Guess Who. Ironically enough, no one guessed who. Get it? Get it? God, I slay myself sometimes.

8) The Clash.

...

Sorry, I lost ten minutes there while I stared at this photo. Identified by spacedye_vest and rochefort.
And Rochefort, what was that you said once about the Clash being almost unbearably sexy, with their three long-legged men in tight jeans all standing at the front of the stage?

9) The Libertines. Identified by spacedye_vest and rochefort.
Roger Sargent (the photographer) should get a knighthood or something for his images of this band alone.
Or, as coco_palmolive said, "GUYS IN BANDS ARE SUPER HOT."

10) The Three O'Clock, and another 80s flashback. They had a song called "Jet Fighter" and were part of the Paisley Underground. I'm not ringing any bells here, am I?

11) The Kinks, "being gorgeous" as rochefort said. Also identified by spacedye_vest.
The liner notes to a Kinks compilation I have, in the process of claiming that no modern music would exist without the Kinks,
made reference to the Kinks' many homoerotic songs and to Ray Davies's "effete stage performances".
I did a doubletake when I read that since I can only think of a couple of homoerotic Kinks songs
(although the Other Adult in the house did point out, "Well, 'Autumn Almanac' is pretty swishy")
and since in archival footage I've seen of the Kinks Ray doesn't look any more "effete" than any of his contemporaries.
Comments, flist? Am I missing some extraordinary gayness here in/with the Kinks?

12) We Are Scientists, identified by rochefort, with additional ogling of Michael Tucker (the guy on the left) supplied by coco_palmolive.

13) The Paddingtons, who remained anonymous.

14) Dirty Pretty Things, identified by, yes, spacedye_vest and rochefort.

15) Maximo Park. I'm surprised no one got this one.

16) Art Brut. Also surprisingly unidentified. Eddie Argos is pretty unmistakable.

17) The Jam. *happy sigh* Identified by spacedye_vest and rochefort, of course, as well as by coco_palmolive and louiselux.

18) Franz Ferdinand. Identified by, wait for it, spacedye_vest and rochefort.

19) Orange Juice. ROCHEFORT! ORANGE JUICE! The guy on the left is Edwyn Collins! Sheesh.

20) Television, identified by spacedye_vest and, for a change, ourmutualfiend.

So that's
spacedye_vest 9.5
rochefort 9.5
ourmutualfiend 3.5
coco_palmolive 2
louiselux 2
jillsjourney 1

Thanks for playing!

And I probably should explain that I mostly listen to my iPod when I'm working out, and my criterion for putting music on it is basically 'will it energize me to keep running on the damn treadmill?'

Also, if you think these were obscure, just be glad I couldn't find any photos of the Sneakers.
