Tomorrow, tomorrow..
I get up in the mornings, feeling somewhat awake.. but then in the evenings as I sit at the puter, I just feel the tiredness growing.. and I keep getting into the procrastination groove.
And hardy har.. just so happens I did get that book I ordered about procrastination, but yeah, you guessed it.. I started reading, some.. but haven't exactly finished it... *coughs and shuffles feet, and promptly gets distracted with something else as her gaze falls upon that..*
The past mornings last week and the very beginning of this week it's been around -20C, and then in evenings it just somehow feels colder as one winds down, brr. I did work (outdoors) when it was -30C, mind you. I'm actually looking forward to spring/summer for a change. Normally I dislike it 'cause my skin tends to get less enthused when it has been exposed to the stronger sun, but now I just want it to be slightly warmer so I won't have to wear extra layers of clothing all the time.
Spiral Staircases - A downward or upward spiral obsession? :P
I've begun researching (spiral) staircase construction. Call it my latest part-obsession, in the sense that it is included in the BJD one. I want to make a spiral staircase for Scylla's
doll to be. I think I'd not do very well making a staircase for a doll that is 40 cm though,
ie the size of my BJD to be, Scylla's doll will be about 27 cm however, is just about that infamous Barbie size and should be more manageable. And very much a possibility to make stuff I can't buy in full size scale, to enjoy in doll-sized scale instead!
Some examples of wonderful and/or unusual spiral staircases..

Solid Forms Custom Wood Spiral StairGot to love that symmetry and spiralness, although with no railing, a tad dangerous? Also, the
Cabinet Stairs, what a quirky idea.
-
Log Stairs - Custom Wood Stairs GalleryIsn't it awesome? Spiral staircases with trees in the middle! It'd be so neat if the tree
continued up at the top, where the staircase had in fact ended, and the tree had some branches sticking out for hanging up stuff on. And the one with the bear details, aww!

Kauri Log Staircase..and while we're at it, why not a staircase within a tree log! According to info
here,
thought to be the only internal log staircase in the world!, if not definitely the oldest, having lived around 1087 years before meeting its demise 45 000 years ago..

Contemporary Staircase @ stairporn.comTeehee, what a glorious url in itself ;) And lots of nice ones, especially the
Stairs in movies: Mon Oncle, 1958 And this, this was just darn spiffy modern housing/buildings..

Modern Mini Houseby wesquatchThat
staircase, just such a great and simple construction. Yet, no railings again, hmm. But none the less, so elegant.

Unique COntemporary House Design in Mexico by Javier SenosianFor some reason it makes me think of not only the round house designs by whathisname (T, I bet you know what architect I'm talking about?), but also some scenes from the Quest For Glory game.
Dollhouse inspiration
Emilia Nieminen, had a lovely staircase incorporated into her impressive
dollhouse project design for
The Grand Library, one good image is
this one (a wip one though, but it had the best closeup I thought). She too had found that making spiral staircase railings was the one difficult thing, so she got a spiral staircase from My Scene Barbie Party. I'm thinking if I use some wooden spindle spacers originally intended for miniature dollhouses, as inbetween bits for a spiral staircase of Barbie size, then I could at least hopefully make a spiral staircase, although not one with sleek and curved railings. It'd have a staircase with more jagged looking railing, which I of course can't seem to find a good example pic of right now.
Yet.. making a modern minimalist staircase, ie planks coming out of the side of a wall would be fun.. but a spiral staircase is more "useful". I must try and make up my mind. It all depends on the base for this as well, I was planning on getting one of the IKEA Expedit bookcase constructions, and removing the inside wooden ledges. Scylla's doll would be able to stand up with them attached as that square measures 30x30x30 I believe, but she'd just have a few cms to spare, so it'd look weird. And yes, I do have homework to do, and yet I always manage to find something to ogle and ponder the construction of.. and naturally, all these pesky bills unabling me to go material shopping :/
Back to cleansing and catching up on homework!
