I have got a fanless 8600 GTS and that is OK for me. I do not like noise either.

Oh, what version specifically?
When and where did you buy it, and how much did you pay?

I've also set my eyes on an ASUS GEFORCE GT 210 1GB DDR2 PCI-E VGA/DVI/HDMI SILENT LP.

To fan or not to fan, that is the question..
I should take more care in monitoring the new gfx card's temperature either way, that's for certain.

I bought it from Dustinhome about one and a half year ago but now it looks like it can not be bought any more. The product name was ASUS GEFORCE 8600GT 256MB DDR3 PCI-E DVI SILENT
The temperature have never been any problem for me, the heatsink is way bigger on the fanless versions. Just make sure you have enough space in your box because the card will probably occupy more then one slot. The 8600 silent version has one slot for connectors and a second for a ventilation openings.

There are many fans that are incredibly silent as long as you get one of decent quality. I've had fans that I couldn't hear at all, even when turning the effect up to max and specifically listened for it.

Also, a fan is a very good thing to have. I had a graphics card where the fan suddenly died for no reason. It turned hot enough to sizzle (or rather, it went sort of "TSS!", like if you put a drop of water on a hot plate) when I accidentally touched it while looking for the reason why my computer suddenly froze.

That card was overkill so it NEEDED the fan, though. ;)

tl;dr
Get a fan of better-than-just-decent quality and it will not make any noticeable amount of noise unless it breaks down, and it will make your graphics card perform a lot better.

Yet, someone's definition of "not any noticeable amount of noise" may differ from someone else's such.. wah, well, I guess we'll see how this goes.

It very much depends on availability too. The 8600 GTS card olov recommended might be tricky to find nowadays (or only at not so well-known sellers), like a silent version of a GeForce 9500.

And you mean a card + fan package, not an extra fan?
Would a fanned GeForce 9500 or GeForce 210 meet up to better-than-just-decent quality?

Unfortunately, I don't know that much about specific fans. I just wanted to point out that of you get a good fan, it will not make a lot of (if any) noise.

But the card + fan package I had that died, well.. The fan was so silent that I didn't notice that it was dead until I opened up the computer and saw that it didn't move.
Can't remember which card that was though.
