Yeah, I should have listed MapleStory in the unique ones too actually. Although it is a bit grinding, at least it's refreshing with the customizing of your character and the sidescrolling game play.
Now that was a well oiled ranting machine in motion. You sum up so well all the reasons I lost interest in MMO's after playing Star Wars Galaxies. Once more I bow to your well written tirade.
Anarchy Online is good and it sets hard to reach goals at practically every level that require brains to do in the form of twinking the char to a pvp/pve god for certain level tower wars or just for the gratification of not sucking.. lots of variety and unique classes.
Minions Of Mirth is as good as your going to get with a free mmo.. no script fee, no gimmics.. poor graphics and its a lil to easy but its got nice variety as any mmo should have. This game reminds me of everquest in a way.. has a strange 3 classes per char system that makes for critical thinking in char development.. like 18 classes to pick from and it has unlockable playable monster templetes.
gekkeiju online has extremely poor graphics but has suitable game mechanics and a great sense of humor. If you can deal with the cutesy mmo's then you shouldnt have any trouble with the graphics because poor or not.. its a hell of alot better than lil bat wing princesses and bobblehead puppies...
Oh, Anarchy Online! How could I have forgotten that one? That game does indeed deserve to be on the list of good MMOs.
I've actually never heard of Minions of Mirth, I'll have to give that one a shot. Graphics aside I would take anything that has a good amount of critical thinking. A three class system per character sounds very interesting indeed.
Please, help me, brothers!!!

"You need 10847000 experience points to reach the last level available in World of Warcraft, which would require years of game play or lots of cheats."
I take it youve never played world of warcraft to the last lvl...
And howabout you make your own MMO instead of bitching about whats already out.

lol. It's my own personal journal, so I'll bitch as much as I please.
I love how out of this entire rant you manage to pick one exact point to harp on out of the many. Especially since I had so many about WoW.
I'm not saying it's a completely horrible game. It actually has storyline, which is fantastic. Character creation is pretty neat, they have a lot of pets and spells and a lot of classes. All good stuff. I just don't enjoy their cheap ploys in attempts to prolong a game that should really only take about three months to play alll of the way through.
Just out of curiosity, what made you read a journal post that is so very old? How did you even stumble across this?

Hi!
The commenter might have googled "MMORPG'S SUCK!" because... I just found this post doing that. It's on the first... or maybe second... page on google for the term.
I've gotten fed up with MMORPG's not because the grindfest -- I actually would love to play a game for years, oddly -- but because of community. Someone ran up to me in Trickster Online and said "u are crap"
While I shouldn't have cared for numerous reasons, I got sick of it because of the general idea in MMOs to be better than everyone else.
I don't believe people should really feel that way. Playing a game is meant to be fun, not a competition, and it seems that people forget this. Perhaps its just a product from our society, but it gets to me. I just want to have fun, not be be LOL BETTER THAN U NUBBB!
So, until a game exists where people play it purely for fun, I'm out. :D

THANK YOU. I have been trying to figure out for SO long why all of these random people started running into this old ass journal post :p
And man I know what you mean. A friend talked me into trying WoW again and the moment I got on there was this guy running after me and whispering me about having sex every ten seconds.
And I swear it only gets worse with every new game, you know? At this point I've all but dropped MMOs for the various reasons, but definitely the community. When I noticed I was logging out of games just to avoid assholes I finally realized the entire point of MMOs was lost on me. I wasn't even interacting with people anymore.
Sorry to hear that you've had such a bad time with it too D: Who knows? Maybe one of these days things will shape up and we'll get a really kick ass game with nice people in it for a change!

It's mostly grinding, yeah, but it's not point and click like so many other games.

Yeah, I can totally understand why Star Wars Galaxies turned you off of them too. Not exactly the cream of the crop there.
