I set my alarm and woke up "early" (eg, 9:00), put on a pretty skirt and retro t-shirt and my pretty new heels, and took myself downtown on the bus. For a total of about $25, I bought:
-a bunch of basil
-a bunch of carrots (with dirt still on them! it proves they're real)
-five plums
-two-thirds a pound of cherries
-a pint of blueberries
-six mini donuts (still hot!)
-a jar of blackberry honey
and then took myself to the Elliot Bay Book Company cafe, where I read C.S. Lewis and drank a latte.
Then I wandered around and called my dad and chatted for awhile, and then I took myself into a jewelry store to browse wedding rings, and LO AND BEHOLD they had exactly what I wanted! (wedding squee alert) I'd been looking for something thin with no diamonds but with a little decoration (like millegraine), and nobody had anything in stock. I explained to the salesperson what I wanted, and she showed me everything in the display case and nothing was right--but then she pulled out pretty much exactly what I wanted from a storage area! And it was IN MY SIZE! And was about the price of simple white gold bands I'd seen online. So I called E and got the go-ahead, and bought it. And now I keep trying it on, because I am so happy to have finally found something I like! It's funny seeing it next to my engagement ring, though; since the engagement ring is 2 years old, the rhodium plating is starting to wear off and it's looking less brilliant. Aw! I kind of like that I've been wearing it long enough for it to show wear and tear.
So then I called a good friend and chatted more, and then I called my mom and chatted more, and then I came home and cooked a big plate of vegetable-y tomato sauce (with a teensy bit of pasta), ate dinner sitting outside on my porch, killed some more aphids (and ripped out the lettuce that's been taken over by my zucchini plant), was suddenly inspired and walked to the store to get canned whole tomatoes, remembered I had to exercise and went to the gym, then came home and cooked a big vat of spaghetti sauce with tons of zucchini and mushrooms.
It has just been a spectacular weekend. And E will be home so soon! I am ridiculously lucky.
Good night ^.^
