reports of sorts

Hey everyone!
So, lots has happened as of late.

So, my homestay was awesome. I got to hear a lot and see a lot of how Japanese life is for a family (that is assuming that my host family is average and typical in some of the things they did). For example:
*A lot of meals they eat in a room separate from the kitchen, and eat at a low table without chairs.
*The toliet is not in the same room as the bath.
*You don`t bath in the bath, you only get in after you are clean- it`s hot so it`s good for relaxing in.

On a different note, I found out from my host sister that Japanese can`t learn to drive till they are 18, and then I think she said only after they have decided what they are going to do after high school age (they are only required to attend school through junior high- grade 6, but most go on to high school).

Whenever we went to the store for food, they never bought a large amount. And when I`ve been to the grocery store for food, most people will only buy one basket full of things.

On Tuesday I followed class fairly well. Wednesday I couldn`t understand anything. And yesterday I did deciently.. we had a surprise mini test, but it said in the syllubas that that could happen at any time. On the grammar I did okay、but for new vocab I bombed because I had read over the grammer but I hadn`t looked at the vocab of the new chapter at all >_<
We also have a project that I need to work on in just a bit. A few weeks ago we had to pick a favorite place in Iida. I chose the library. And now we have to interview people at the place x_X I did a few yesterday. It was SOOOOO<\i> nerve racking. And I need to do some more still. ~sigh~ But I`m going to do this (I kinda have to.) But it gives me good practice as well.

*Our program director will be returning to Japan on Monday.
*This weekend, my friend and I are going to Tokyo.

I don`t know if Japan news makes it to America at all, but we were told on the 19th that we are having the heaviest rain here that has been for about 10 years.
On the 20th, we were informed that people in.. Nagano city I think it was... had to evacuate their homes because of mud slides and such. Also, that trains were stopped in some places as well as highways shut down.
Yesterday, we were told that due to the rain: 5 people in the city over were killed. In all of Japan, 11 have died and 9 are missing.
I never realized how rain, just rain, not hurricane or tsunami, but rain could do so much damage and destruction. I mean, I know I`ve heard of it before, but I think this is the closest I`ve ever been to it. And while I doubt we are in any danger here, we are experiancing the same rain that is doing these things to other people..
