Summer Shopping Sucks

Aug 19, 2008 18:07

I've been saving up for a netbook for some time and am positive that I'm going to purchase an Acer Aspire One soon. And for some reason I really liked the blue one when I saw the pictures from various unpackings and reviews. This is strange, as I dislike more shades of blue than of any other colour (and those that I do like are usually almost ( Read more... )

Whoa, really? Shocking. What do they need insulation for anyway? Y'know warmth and all.
I think it should be an insuletta. That way 'insula' is free to be used for continents. I've always been annoyed at the distinction. I mean: definition of island: land poking out of water. So where's the diff? It's just a bit more land doing the poking, no?

*coughs*
Anyway. *mutters something about golden ages and spontaneous self-combustion*

I've been looking at the Aspire One myself, and I quite like the blue colour myself. OTOH, I'm a big fan of blue, and the white models look too much like Macs for my liking, so it was pretty much black or blue. Haven't had an opportunity to play with an MSI Wind yet, but if that doesn't pan out I'm definitely going for the blue Aspire One. Linux all the way for me tho :-)

Well, I'll keep the colour decision open for now. I probably would have taken the black one, but for some reason there's only blue and white available over here.
*sighs* Getting the SSD with Linux would save 100 € (vs the XP). And I don't actually need a 120 gb hd.

I considered eee and Wind, but the eee is annoying and confusing me with all those models (and I bet that whichever model I'd choose would be unavailable in Austria) and the Wind is kinda cheap looking. Also I'm very happy with my Aspire 5920G, so Acer got bonus points.

True enough @ your point about the white one being mac-ish. I do like some of their designs, but dislike the whole apple system of charging way more than the product's worth and the Apple Updating thingy that keeps trying to install Safari... grrr.
(eta. why the hell did I spell safari with a y?)

Ah, the bonus points of living in London again: being able to wander into the centre last Saturday and try out a few models just by wandering down one road (including pretty much every EEE model in existence).

I don't really need a 120Gb HDD, but 8gb is a little on the small side. Given this will probably replace my current laptop as my "random stuff" machine, I would quite like to go back to having an hdd in the laptop that's large enough to store a copy of my music collection (~20-something gb - current laptop is 60gb, but I have too much other crap on it), and even without that I can easily eat my way through 8gb of random other misc probably without even blinking.

I'm less concerned about Apple's prices, more a matter of hating their design decisions - OS X makes me feel like I'm trapped in a little claustrophobic box, and I won't surrender to the iPod masses despite my need want for a new media player of decent storage size. That, and they haven't got a netbook-like device (ok, there's the Air, but it's a tad too big and * ( ... )

Yup, 8 gig is easy to fill and even if you use the extra SD slot you only get another 8 (I think).
*g* Those were the days, when you could back-up everything on a zip disk... playing Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. We totally live in the future.
