I can't wait to go to Japan myself! Only a year more! XD Have you been to the Gion district or other Geisha districts and gotten any shots of the Maiko and Geiko? Just curious. ;3

Lucky that you got to go to a Tea Ceremony! That type of green tea is usually referred to as Matcha. It's a powdered green tea, and I find it rather delicious, but I think it's an acquired taste. Looks like you had a lot of fun!

There's a lot of second hand stores where you can buy kimono and obi very cheap. A lot of my friends say you can get a second hand kimono; to keep, for under 2000 yen, and obi for 1000 yen. Of course, you have accessories to buy and such, but a lot of these second hand shops will let you put together a full ensemble. And of course, there's ebay, there's three different big japanese companies that that sell kimono for very cheap, and there's a good number of books that teach dressing.

You're coming here too? Cool! :D

I haven't been to the Gion district yet. But I'm probably going there next weekend or the one after. I have seen some Maiko walking around though. Didn't have my camera with me though. One thing that is pretty cool that I am going to try out is to be made up like a Maiko with everything that comes with it and have studio photos taken. One of our sempai had done that and she said it was a lovely experience. You even get to walk around in the Gion district as a Maiko for a while (if you want to).

Oh, matcha it is? I really liked it. The tea here is great btw. In all restaurants (and even at real estate agents) you get green tea of varying kinds. It's really refreshing and very tasty to food.

For under 2000 yen??? That's like robbery, lol. I'll keep my eyes open then!

Sorry I miss getting back to you! Been so busy! Anyways, you mentioned Maiko Henshin ( dress up ) one of the best studios and maybe the one you're talking of, is this one here: http://www.maiko-henshin.com/english/ . Some of my friends who have done Maiko henshin has said that one is the best!

My favorite variants of green tea would have to be the Matcha, followed by Sencha, which is the type that's served at most restaurants, or at least from what I hear. The restaurant, here in Pensacola, ran by a Japanese couple, serve Sencha and it's quite wonderful.

I've also been told that Kyoto holds some fabulous flea markets which are sure to yield Kimono goodies and the such. I can't wait for next year to roll around so I can go. Only problem is going to be getting back, I'm surely not going to want to come home!

Sorry! I had missed this comment somehow.

Oh, that Maiko Henshin studio might be the same one that my sempai visited. I'll ask her about it. Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely check this out!

Oh, have to check those flea markets out too. Though wherever you go here you find kimono goods and shops that specialize in accessories.

Well myself, I am torn between wanting to stay here forever and longing for my hometown. I love both places. I wish I could get a job where I could stay in Japan 6 months and Sweden 6 months each year (preferable Japan during the winter/spring, and Sweden during the summer/autumn).

That golden palace looks so cool! *_*

And weird, that bird looks like a mourning dove, a really common bird in N. America...
