"Finishing the book is a relief. I can't think of anyone who could know how I felt. Actually finishing it was the most remarkable feeling I've ever had... [I felt] euphoria, devastated, when I finished one chapter near the end I absolutely howled, it had been planned for so long ( Read more... )

I've been trying to keep my head in the sand until the last minute - not reading about it, not talking, not even thinking. Sounds so dire. And yeah, definitely heading to the end first.

That's how I feel -- not following all the speculation, I mean. It's only 14 days away and I really don't know hat I'm going to do!

I've never really felt a sense of foreboding, 'til now. Oh, I won't read the last page! That would really be too much.

*worries*

It didn't seem real until now, it's almost OVER! *sobs* I-I-I don't know how I'm going to survive with no Harry Potter book to look foward to... the movie'll be crap if he dies, so I might not be ABLE to look foward to that!

The last page first? No way!!! I haven't waited years and years and avoided spoiler like the plaque just to spoil myself the second I get my hands on the book.

Buuut I know a certain lady who will do exactly that. My best friend Ven does always read the last page first.

To me JKR's comment sounds more like "I howled in relief".

And hey, how many dark fics have you read to date? Can it really be worse than one of them? I'm going to tread the book like just another possibility and if I don't like what I read I'm going to blend it out.

I'm still in 2 minds about the last page 1st thing, which is why I posted this; I need other opinions... I don't think I can make this decision on my own *bites nails*

That's some good thinking about the 'howl' thing, I'd never thought to look at it like that and it certainly puts my mind at rest... I think I'll be in Egypt for a little longer then :). Or not, as the case may be: there could still be a happily ever after, we'll know in 14 days, eh?

Oh, and as for the darkfics: NO! I cried so much after reading If You Are Prepared (4 or 5 years ago) my friends wanted to have me committed! This'll be so much worse because it's CANON! It's the real thing. I don't care how good the AU fanfics are, canon is canon to me and JKR is still the best there is. She is THE final word in the Potterverse in my opinion. That's why I'm so worked up!

I stopped seeing JKR as the final word sometime around book 5. She has great ideas, heck she created us a wonderful world to live and play in, but she obviously doesn't know her own characters. She gives them minimal background - sometimes not even that - and makes them behave in ways one cannot understand. Have you ever read "A nick in time"? That's believable character development. Harry in a cupboard, unloved, uncared for and that did not leave any emotional scars? At all? The inner conflicts of Snape. Does being a Death Eater make you a bad dad? Is the light side really good? Azkaban. House-elves. Dementors. JRK gave us a thousand interesting questions but answered nearly none of them. Fandom did.

Yes, A Nick in Time's brilliant, isn't it ( ... )

mm an interesting tidbit of information but I reckon I'll save the surprises til I finish the book (hehe don't feel like spoiling myself before reading the story in its entirety).

I'm torn... I'm so worked up about the whole thing that I think I may explode! I think I'm going to skip ballet on the day and just stay at home in bed, reading. Heck, I'll probably skip meals too! And I am SO lining up with the shoes, hat, robe, earrings and socks. That'll make a big impact in my small country town :p!

Yar also I'm of a mind to skip my usual Tae Kwon-do training session that day just to be able to finish the book within a few hours of getting it and then be safe from any spoilers that may happen to come my way. Oh and I can't wait for my bonus plush owl that I'll get for pre-ordering my copy from Borders hee ^^. I'd totally line up in full Hogwarts regalia if I only had the necessary gear but I guess I'll have to go as an ordinary muggleborn student on holiday (unless I go have a quick visit to eBay hmm...).

*G* go as a wizard who doesn't know how to be a Muggle. You know, weird combinations, dressing gowns... that sort of thing

I'm still undecided on that too. Usually I do read the last chapter first, because otherwise I read through the book to quickly and miss things that are important. I don't mind spoilers, it doesn't make it less interesting to me if I know what happens, it's the journey that makes it worth while. But in this case, I fear that the outcome will be so disappointing I won't want to read the book if I know what happens. If certain characters die - I'll be devastated. I guess I'll make the decision when I open the book. *g*

Exactly! You took the words right out of my mouth! (Don't worry, I won't sing the next part :p.)
I have to read it! I have to! But I don't know if I'll be strong enough to resist reading the last page and if that's the case (if I'm too weak), I really don't know if I can go to the beginning! Gah! Maybe I'll just have to glue the last chapter together and when I've finished the rest go to the library and read it... Yes, that's a possibility!

Hehehe... that might be a good idea for both of us! *g*

Not to change the subject, but did you, by chance, get a chance to look at those short fics I sent you?
