Character Information
Name: Gamzee Makara
Age: six sweeps (13)
Canon: Homestuck
Timeline: EoA5
Affiliation: Trainer
Starter: Deino ("Juggie", like a juggler, or a juggalo, or a subjuggulator)
History:
hoping it isn't vandalized Personality:
Gamzee as we meet him originally is friendly, easy going, and constantly stoned out of his mind. He loves rainbows and miracles and believes everyone should follow what's in their hearts. He's also a member of an obscure cult, a follower of the Mirthful Messiahs and their Dark Carnival.
This is actually a reference to the group Insane Clown Posse, and the troll himself appears to follow a very "Juggalo"-esque lifestyle, right down to drinking Faygo. When Dave, one of the main human characters in the story, actually shows him a video of one of their songs, however, he flips out over it and calls it blasphemy. This, as well as him running out of slime, are what lead to him going off the deep end.
Unfortunately a lot of his motivations are speculation, as we're not shown any of Gamzee's thought process. The following are solid facts, though: Gamzee considered himself to be the Mirthful Messiahs, killed both Equius and Nepeta, and told Karkat he meant to kill them all. He then took the heads of all the deceased trolls and made a "jury" out of them, putting their bodies in glass chambers. Rather than kill Vriska and Terezi outright, however, he led the second to a confrontation with the first that leads to Vriska's death, as though aware of what the outcome would be. It's possible that much of this was orchestrated by Doc Scratch, as Gamzee is later seen talking to him on his husktop. (Though he also claims to have had influence from the puppet Cal, but this could also have been Scratch taking advantage of his breakdown, or possibly just Gamzee's crazy completely.)
When he meets with the others on the rooftop, he's stopped by Karkat, who manages to calm him and takes up the position of his moirail. It's been said that he was calmed after this, and he does appear to have settled when they're all standing and looking at the green sun afterward. However, it's doubtful he'll return to being like he was before. I don't see him as being apologetic for what he did, and even if he is eventually, it wouldn't be so much that he'd want to start eating sopor again to control himself. He has Karkat to help keep him calm now, and even without Karkat around he'd respect the other troll's wishes as much as possible and not go on another rampage.
He'll be a little more moody than he was before, but still with some aspects of his former juggalo self. It will take a while to get used to just acting like a normal troll again when his thought processes are so much more clear and different now, and there will still be a lot of creepy left about him.
He'll also be INCREDIBLY overprotective of Karkat. And very much attached to him, since right now he's his main link to sanity, which he'll need now that everything's been turned upside down on him in more ways than one. Messing with his moirail is generally the best way to get him to lose his cool. Otherwise, there isn't much worry that he'll go off and try to kill anyone, or anyone's pokemon.
That said, he is not completely stable, and may never be completely stable. Not for a good while, anyway. He's not going to return to the stoner he was and is just going to have to slowly come to terms with who he is and who he wants to be now.
Powers & Abilities:
He's just a little hax. We're not shown how strong he is, but we're told that he does the most damage to the final boss in their game. And this boss is pretty huge and nasty. There's also the matter of him never having to upgrade his weapons at any time during their session. He's proven to have excellent aim and incredible speed. It all seems to be physical in nature, though. No psychic abilities. If this needs to be nerfed in any way, I'd have no problem doing so.
All characters in Homestuck have a sylladex, which allows them to store numerous items. This isn't so much a physical thing as something they just... have. As if their whole world is one computer program and they're all players in it. They also have a strife specibus, which is where their weapons are stored. Usually this is only one type of weapon per person, but when Gamzee goes sober his turns into a "Jokerkind" deck, allowing him to retrieve weapons belonging to just about anyone. For example, he's currently using the Warhammer of Zillyhoo, something belonging to John who isn't even in their session.
It's recently been revealed that he has certain abilities referred to as chucklevoodoos, which allow him to influence the dreams of others (with distance apparently not being an issue). For example, he placed a jester doll in John's dreams which caused him to subconsciously draw them on his walls. He can also, to some extent, bring out fear in others through similar means. This was used by subjuggulators in the past to keep the lower bloods in check.
Posting Samples
Third-Person Sample: One would think that, having worked with a Sylladex for some time, Gamzee wouldn't be baffled by something as simple as a pokeball. This wasn't true. After all, one didn't normally stuff live things into a sylladex. Normally. (He's sure it's been done before at some point.)
So, unfortunately for his pokemon, he's currently calling out and recalling it. Over and over. And over. After the first few times, the creature resigned itself to its fate and has spent the rest of the time boredly putting up with the process. His master will have to get tired of this sooner or later. Surely.
Unlike before, where this would have been a simple matter of him being enraptured by the flashing colors and sound made by the action of using a pokeball this way, now Gamzee was honestly curious about the actual workings of the device. What happened to the living being connected to it when it went in. Did it shrink? Was there a whole separate world in there he couldn't see? If there was one thing about this world he could call miraculous no matter what the true science behind it was, it was this.
Pokeballs, man. How do they work?
And he does stop after a while, though not because he's tired of it so much as he's had another idea that needs testing. Taking an empty pokeball, as the one he was using obviously belongs to a pokemon already, he points it at himself and presses the button. After all, if a pokeball can hold a twenty foot tall creature within the confines of an item that fits in the palm of his hand, then there has to be a chance it can hold a troll as well.
Nothing happens.
He tries throwing the ball at himself with similar results. Multiple times. His pokemon stares, both embarrassed and fascinated at the same time.
Then, as though just then realizing how ridiculous he has to look at this point, Gamzee grumbles and stashes both pokeballs away, lifting his Deino up into his arms. It had been a silly experiment anyway.
Though it would have been great fun to have seen Dave's face after the fact had it managed to work. After he'd shrunk the bastard down and carried him around with him for a while, that was. It was a real shame that this was a dream that would probably never be.
First-Person Sample:
So let me get all this straight. Let me get this all the motherfuck pieced together in this empty pan of mine.
We catch these little bros. Zap the motherfuckers right up into these wicked spherical capture balls. Than have them all put their dukes up against someone else's captured beast. Have ourselves a real motherfuckin' rumpus of the tooth and claw variety.
Don't all know how right that's soundin'. Don't know how I'm feelin' towards that at all.
Kinda like this little dude.
Precious motherfucker. What if he don't all really want to get his roughhousin' on.
...And I don't need to be hearin' nothin' from nobody regardin' what irony there's to be had in this set of motherfuckin' queries.
Anything else?
I kinda stole Dees's method of writing Soberzee, in that he switches from normal to italics to show the emphasized lines. I'm only saying this because I used to write that sort of thing in caps or in bold, but it makes more sense and reads nicer to do it this way.
This really has no impact on the app, but I felt I needed to say it somewhere.
