thanks for the memories

Yesterday, I went to the fabric store to try to obtain another two yards of one particular material I hadn't gotten enough of the first time around. I can't go any further on the current quilt until I do. It wasn't there. I found it hard to believe it could disappear so quickly. It still existed as of two days ago! I searched the store from one end ( Read more... )

I get the old books the library has tossed on bookfinder.com. It links to all the big retailers and a lot of little independent bookstores including used book stores.
I know what you mean about the disposable society... It makes me mad.

Yay, thank you! I'll go bookmark that site!

Disposable for sure. We still have all our old vinyl records, plus the record player :) It cracks me up that vinyl is making a comeback. lol. We never left. Maybe if we wait long enough...

I am too, even though I paid too much for it when converted from Aussie dollars into US, about $10. For one fat quarter! But I kept going back to it and back to it because those colors just went straught to my soul. Spouse finally told me to just do it :) And I don't reqret it. This is one time it was worth it.

p.s. They still have two left :) Look under Oriental fabric.

I know what you mean. I try hard not to be attached in the material world and to not be sentimental, but when so many of my favorite things keep disappearing and they're replaced with the "new and improved," it makes me feel sad.

I am so glad you found the fabric and bought it for yourself. Your quilt is going to be so beautiful.

What annoys me is that so often the new and improved version turns out not to work as well or no longer have the same options as the old one. Or the flip side, they're now overly-complicated. When my old car radio died, spouse took it in to have it fixed. He wound up having to order a new one. Now, instead of a simple on/off button, I have to push a button, hold for a count of five, release and never touch that button agan for any reason or it'll be so FUBAR, I have to get out the manual. I can't tell you how many times I've accidentally bumped it and then cussed all the way to town.

Thank you, I hope so, after all that trouble. lol.

I didn't find nearly the amount I originally wanted, but with a lot of re-thinking of the layout of the quilt, it can work. Just one more fat quarter would be enough. And the discovery of the of the crane quarter is an unexpected up side :) I can add a couple of simple borders and have a lovely lap quilt with that. A twofer :)

Doves are seed eaters and ground feeders, so whatever he's eating has to fall to the ground or be within easy reach. I often seem them picking through our tall grass here. Since you said he can fly, he's capable of moving on to another area if he's not finding enough, but you could put out some bird seed in a dish on the ground if you like :) It's up to you if you wish to encourage him to hang around. For water, the dish has to be deep enough for him to plunge his bill in pretty far. They tend to suck water up like a siphon instead of a dainty sip.

That discontinued thing makes me crazy. I refuse to buy blu-ray whatsits. Bad enough my vhs are obsolete.

Also...thank you for saying that about the oiled birds. I'm almost afraid to come online because those pictures are everywhere and when I see them I have anxiety attacks bordering on panic. I get accused frequently of having my head in the sand, but it feels like that's the only place I can get breath lately. :(

We've resisted BlueRay, too, for the same reason. We only bought a new HD TV because our old one went belly up right then, but we kept it small so it would fit in the same spot :) Now I worry that 3D TVs will be the next big gotta have thing. Rrr.

I so feel you. Since there's nothing we can physically do, it only causes pain to stare at the tragedy. I'm well aware of what's going on down there, but wallowing in heartbreak day after day is too much.
