Yes it is :) It crash-landed on an asphalt road nearby in early spring a few years ago during a sudden severe cold snap. We figured it was migrating through on the way to Canada and pooped out. Its feet and wings were somewhat scuffed and it was dehydrated. We cleaned it up, gave it time to rest, and took it to the nearest large body of water (they need a tremendously long flight path to get up in the air again) and released it.
Right now we're closed to the public (although, like in fiction, closed never really means closed. :) Spouse has surgery in two weeks. We've cleared the decks, except for ten ducklings who are now outside, to get him through that and his recovery period :)

Thank you so much for the good wishes! We're hoping all goes well. Our vacation is going to consist mainly of hiding in the house while he heals :)
You won't be totally rid of me, though. I'll still be reading and commenting a bit, just not blogging for a while. And you'll still see me on FB on occasion :)
I'll see you on FB - but I'll miss your more detailed posts from over here. I hope your husband's surgery is smooth and easy and that his recovery is too.
Thank you! So far, so good. We visited spouse's family in Pennsylvania over the weekend (a rehabber friend babysat our ducklings,) and today we bought a hanging basket of purple petunias. It feels good to just sit :)

It's great to be back and to catch up on what people are doing, writing, reading, and hoping. Have a great summer, and catch my blog about my third novel in my series about Charlemagne's family.

I'll still post from time to time, but with longer lags in between. Fewer animals means less to say right now :)
I hope your new wip is going well :)
