great expectations

Last night a lady brought us an injured bunny. It was after nine p.m.  Looking around our kitchen, she said, "So this is it?" She'd expected a clinic, staff, that hospital smell. Instead she got us in all our barefoot glory after a hot, humid day. It occurred to me then that I should put together a list of expectations people have of us and how ( Read more... )

You all grow a great big organic garden for the wild bunnies, deer, and raccoons to feast on. ;)

lol. At least spouse and I have a big organic garden, and we did deliberately plant a whole bunch of extra lettuce to give to the bunnies. The rest is ours, all ours! :) Except for the zucchini, which we have way too much of and nobody else seems to want, not even the raccoons.

However, I do make it a point not to eat anybody I know personally.

That's a comfort!

Our theory on meat has always been: know where it comes from and how it was raised and processed, waste as little as possible and eat with the utmost respect.

I love that! The whole not knowing where the meat comes from or how it was raised and processed is exactly why we don't eat much of it. Horror stories abound these days. I don't like the thought of scarfing down a plateful of pain and suffering.

Your list of myths pretty much discribes the kind of people I think might not make such great rehabers--except #4 which is impossible for any human. However I would expect a rehaber who couldn't take a critter to be able to tell me what I could do to take care of it myself or who I should contact.

Any animal issues I've had lately, I've had to call the game warden--I found a deer stuck in a frozen river. And I called the town clerk about a skunk that looked rabid--supposedly our town health officer takes care of things like that.

You'd be surprised how many people ask if we're vegetarians and then act offended if we're not. One lady even stated that if she'd known that, she wouldn't have brought the animal to us. I told her we don't eat our patients, but she wasn't amused ( ... )

Thank you so much! :) It was a great day. We didn't do anything out of the ordinary. The gift of freedom and time was the best. And how we measure it is just so totally true! lol. How did you know?
