Spouse's little sister and her husband are coming for the weekend. That meant we've had to clean. Not just the lick-and-a-promise, brush off the top layer surface job we normally do. That suffices for people who are only going to step into the kitchen for like five minutes. No, we mean really clean, the industrial strength heavy lifting actually ( Read more... )

I hate to do that kind of "real" cleaning, but it's so nice when it's done. I like the way you think of it as editing.

I so do, too. That's why it gets done to seldom and why it takes a full court press from both of us. Lol. Fortunately, it counts as our annual fall blow-out, so we don't have to do it again for a while.

Now tomorrow you'll need a twist tie and a cork--just kidding. You should see my house when we buy out an estate. Not only is my livingroom-kitchen-spareroom-bathroom full of my stuff, but it also is pile with someone elses junk that needs sorting, washing and pricing.

And a styrofoam tray!! Ain't it the truth.

Estate sales must be kind of rough. How does that work? Do you have to clean out the whole house, or just pick through it all for items of value?

It depends on the household and what the people are looking for. We don't buy entire houselots, like we don't take newer items and most clothes. But we will suggest what people can do with the items we don't buy.

BUT one of the things we specialize in is what we call 'barn junk', so we end up buying stacks and boxes of really dirty stuff. It could be everything that's been piled in an old barn, milking parlor or in a basement or attic. We often leave bid on items or lots of stuff or rooms. It's interesting to see what people have collect and cherished over the years--the good, and the stinky and not so great :)

"Barn junk" sounds like it could a lot of fun! Like an archeological dig, or looking for buried treasure - you never know what cool thing might turn up!
