together (part 2)
04.
“joonkun-hyung isn’t picking up his phone.” doojoon announced with a defeated sigh before sinking onto the couch, his heart and head heavy with the worries weighing down on him.
kikwang knew it was more than worries; there was the overwhelming guilt in the leader’s eyes again, the guilt that might have lessen when the members are healthy and happy but always lurking in the shadows, always waiting to trap him. it was just like doojoon to heave everything on himself (all the responsibilities, worries and the guilt), knowing that it will eventually crush him to death.
(it was just like doojoon too, to be this stupid, never realizing that the members will go down with him if he were to crash. most importantly, he never realized that they were always there, waiting to share his burdens, waiting to hold his falling sky.)
“it isn’t your fault, you have to stop keep thinking it is.” the firm determination that accompanied yoseob’s words evidently surprised all in the room as they looked from the singer to their leader. all yoseob got from doojoon however, was just a brief nod in acknowledgement but never registering the words and the sentiments behind it.
(kikwang wondered what it would take to distract doojoon from all the I should have done this and the what ifs that were constantly crowding his mind. a hard whack on the head, perhaps.)
junhyung’s voice rang out then, loud and clear and not for the first time, kikwang’s respect and admiration for the rapper increased. “if it’s anybody’s fault, it’s ours together. all of us have a responsibility, as much as it’s doojoon’s, to make sure that dongwoon was okay. if doojoon has failed as a leader then all of us have failed as friends. … … erm…yes.”
a cough sounded from him, marking an awkward end to his speech but which helped to dissipate the uncomfortable and sobering air that was hanging over them. even doojoon had a small but genuine smile as his hands lessened their grip on his phone and he let go momentarily, the things weighing him down.
kikwang sat down, beside hyunseung (at times like this, he was especially thankful that at least the other was still there next to him) and knotted their fingers tightly together. he did the same with yoseob’s as hyunseung reached out and held doojoon’s hand. the last to join the circle, junhyung hesitated and looked a little embarrassed to be holding hands with his members but he still wore a small smile as he linked hands with yoseob and doojoon.
dongwoon has always been the glue in the band, the one who kept them together through their stupid fights and disagreements and the one who trusted his life and his heart to them, without a moment of doubt and hesitation. it wasn’t that he was naïve but it was because he chose to see the good and the best in them.
they knew all this and even though they were too prideful or embarrassed to tell him, they were thankful for the little things he did and for simply loving them. and so with him resting in a hospital away from them, they did the only thing they could do for him at that moment.
holding each other’s hands and united in spirit, they said a little prayer in their heart for their youngest, hoping that the autumn wind would help to bring a little of their well-wishes and love to him.
(on a stiff and uncomfortable hospital bed miles away from his members, a smile crept unto dongwoon’s lips as he slept and dreamed of the sea, sky and his hyungs beside him.)
last part tomorrow!
