Character:
CHARACTER'S NAME: Mirys Hargrave
CHARACTER'S FANDOM: Phantasy Star Online
CHARACTER'S HOME UNIVERSE: Whatever the overall universe of the Phantasy Star games is, meaning technology. Lots of it. And some magic (sort of), too. There are multiple different starsystems throughout PS as a whole, but the particular system that PSO takes place in is not actually mentioned by name as far as I can remember. While specific planets and their systems aren't mentioned either, the Pioneer-2-the ship/station that serves as players' main hub in PSO-appears to function with something of a captain-and-crew feel to it, with Colin Tyrell serving as the station's current Principal, most likely having been appointed by the person or people in charge of things on the planet Coral.
METHOD OF ARRIVAL ON STATION: Following the character history given below, Mirys had set out in an attempt to avoid being constantly pursued by fellow hunters, using a small private shuttle obtained through unofficial means as to avoid being easily-tracked. Somewhere in the middle of the course she was following, the shuttle's navigation system was knocked out by a geomagnetic storm, leaving her lost out in the middle of nowhere. After waiting it out awhile, it became clear that the system wasn't coming back on, so she was forced to try sending a distress signal, hoping that whoever intercepted it was not among any of the people actively searching for her. Guess who found her.
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE: (image); Mirys will be arriving with her clothing and a Mag (for the curious, it's an Ila), but otherwise unarmed save for Techniques already known to her (refer to ABILITIES AND SKILLS).

CHARACTER HISTORY tl;dr murphy's law: Mirys is the lone daughter of Dorian and Ellen Hargrave, who were two of the several hunters employed by Colin Tyrell in the investigation of Ragol and the Pioneer-1 incident, although Mirys herself had no direct involvement in this. Taught early on how to use some Techniques by her father, she helped her family by taking on various small side-jobs for the Hunter's Guild while her parents continued with their official missions, until one day they didn't come back. Whether they were killed by hostile creatures on the job or something happened, Mirys never found out; all she knew was they didn't return, and information regarding this was difficult, even impossible to come by. It was as if someone didn't want her to know what happened out there.

With their disappearance and being given no real explanation of what may have happened to them, Mirys found herself needing to take higher-paying-and increasingly-difficult-missions in order to support herself. It started with simple tasks, like the extermination of hostile creatures, but later moved up to more-dangerous work like bounty-hunting, but no matter what she did, she had just barely enough to get by. Life was becoming harder and harder, showing no signs of improving, but she continued with this for a number of months before things took another sharp turn on her.

It eventually got much worse; a retaliatory bounty, placed on Mirys by supporters of a number of her own previous targets. Suddenly, Mirys found herself being targeted by some of the same hunters she had occasionally worked with. This too became increasingly-difficult to deal with, as more and more hunters attempted to capture her-or in some cases outright kill her-and fewer places within the Pioneer-2 or down on Ragol's surface could be considered "safe". After several weeks of this, she had enough; Mirys began looking into ways of quietly leaving the station, even the entire starsystem if need be.

This leads us directly into her METHOD OF ARRIVAL ON STATION.

PERSONALITY: Despite her relatively-young age, Mirys often displays a bit of a jaded personality with little interest in humor. In her mind, the universe is out to screw her over and make life as hard as it possibly can, and so far it's been succeeding at this quite well. What this means is to strangers and people who only barely know her, one can generally expect to see a sort of sarcastic, "fuck you all" attitude from her, in addition to tinges of boredom or apathy on certain occasions. There may be occasional glimpses of a slightly better person, but without her trust, there isn't much to actually see.

So, basically, to most people she's kind of a jerk. She also has an extreme dislike of bugs, due to an incident that took place during the time her father was teaching her to use Techniques-this is an incident she does not talk about.

She has interests in monster-hunting and technology-androids are of particular interest-and though she knows that with her present situation she would be unable to properly pursue such a goal, she also has hopes of being involved in Technique research later in her life. When presented with objects involving any of her interests, she-for lack of a better way of putting it-pretty much nerds out and might need pulling away. People with interests similar to her own will have the easiest time getting along with her once they make these interests known.

Once one begins to gain Mirys's trust, she begins to lose the attitude, although the rest of her personality may seem relatively unchanged for the most part. To those who are close enough to her, she may also exhibit some degree of concern; her life up to this point has basically been one massive streak of bad luck, and she wouldn't want anyone she could consider a friend to suffer due to association. She also sympathizes with people who have been through situations similar to how hers began, people whose family or friends have disappeared without a trace and/or explanation; children whose parents have vanished or died are especially-triggering to her.

ABILITIES AND SKILLS: If you're familiar with Phantasy Star in general, all I really need to say is that Mirys is a Force. For the canon-blind, this means she is basically your run-of-the-mill squishy mage (from SPACE) with various powers that could be considered magical.

A list of Techniques (read: spells) that Mirys may use-all of which exist in canon and range from the original series all the way through Universe-may be found here. Some of these don't exist in PSO itself, but are included for the sake of variety. Basic Techniques require only a minute amount of focus, but stronger Techniques require an additional amount concentration generally proportionate to the Technique's own level, which can be determined by the beginning of the Technique name. As a general rule, the tiers are: Normal → Gi → Ra → Nos.

EDIT: It seems I skipped a tier ("Dam") entirely by mistake, and that the tiers in the Universe games are in a different order than the tiers in the previous games. It should be: Normal → Ra → Dam → Gi → Nos.

IMPORTANT: Regarding Reverser (the revival Technique), due to the game's rule on plots involving character death she will not have access to it unless it is specifically requested OOCly that she use it during a player or mod plot to prevent a death from occurring.

SAMPLE: It was perhaps one of the stupidest ideas ever, but Mirys hardly felt like walking, so here she was, teleporting about with repeated castings of Ryuker. On a few of these castings, she nearly landed on top of other people, generally brushing them off with half-hearted apologies when they protested her sudden appearances. It continued this way for some time, until later, when she was walking around in BSL Sector 2-despite having not wanted to walk-observing the local plants and...giant bugs?

Seriously? Bugs? Mirys's expression shifted from bored and slightly-irritable to extremely-discomforted and in some ways enraged; she hated bugs.

The Force began using her Zonde Techniques to shock any that drew too close to her, with little regard for if they were actually hostile or not. It didn't for a moment occur to her that this was a surefire way to make them hostile if they weren't already, and she soon had an entire swarm coming after her. This group of...what were they, giant locusts? Whatever they were, the swarm pursued Mirys throughout all corners of the sector, eventually chasing her into a dead end.

Her next course of action? Teleport away, of course. Away, and right in the giant freezer that was Sector 5. Just. Her. Luck.

"D-damn it," she muttered under her breath, already shivering from the cold, "why don't I have a map for this dump yet?"
