Sticky wetness plasters my side, spreading further with each beat of my heart. The warmth of it is a sharp counterpoint to the coldness of my skin. I can feel myself fading with each breath and it hurts. All I want is for the pain to stop, but I cannot let go. I don’t want to, because it means leaving him and I’ve done that once. I will not do it again.
So I cling to his hand, literally holding on for dear life. I hold on for all I’m worth, because he is worth living for.
