do a bit of research and tell me what 'smoots' are and what they have to do with the harvard brige. also see if you can tell me how the harvard bridge got its name (i doubt youll be able to even guess this one) :) jut a bit of trivia for you guys...
i love learning this kind of stuff!!

Ok... I did your research "project". Smoots after Oliver R. Smoot. Smoot's pledgemaster came up with the idea of marking the bridge in pledge lengths. This way the students would know how far from campus they were when crossing. Smoot was chosen for the name of the pledge lengths because he was the shortest.That is what smoots are.How did the Harvard Bridge get its name? Well when the bridge was built, the state offered to name it after the Cambridge school that came up with the best claim to the honor. Harvard submitted an essay stating its contributions to the American education, concluding that they deserved to have the bridge named after Harvard. MIT did a structural analysis and found several defects in the bridge and agreed that the bridge should be named after Harvard.

I agree 100% with Caitlin! I'm too lazy to look it up so I'll go with Mr. Oliver R. Smoot because you don't hear names like that anymore. GO SMOOTY!!!

not exactly... but AWESOME!! if im correct, there was a contest to decide who would be able to name the bridge between MIT and harvard and MIT won.. and they did name the bridge but after they found the bridge to be unsound, they named it harvard! also, the frat had been painting the lines every year for many years and at one point they decided to stop. the police came to them and asked them to start painting the lines again because it helps them with speeding cars or something of hte sort... (measuring maybe..) dunno, but i thought that was kinda cool! yay!
