Going Back Home: Fourth Trip to England [Day 01]

Jul 27, 2011 18:36

Andrea's friend from Canada was out here for the past few weeks. Not that I could enjoy it much as I had a horrible headachae pretty much the entire time. I'm finally feeling better, though! Which is a good thing as I'll be in England for 18 days! I don't know why my body made me get up at 7:30 this morning, especially when I got to bed around 1 last night. I got most of my packing done last night, thankfully so there wasn't much else to organize this morning. Of course the only thing I almost forgot to bring was my passport! My dad and I took the 1:10 train into Jamacia station as you can take the air train straight to the terminal. When we got to the airtrain there was a really pushy air-head who clearly was running very late for her flight and thought the world revolved around her. I checked in as soon as we got to the terminal I checked in and was relieved when they confirmed me for the vegetarian meal as they always seem to mess it up. After that we went and got my money exchanged which always makes me excited! I gave my mom and sister a quick call to let them know we got there ok before we headed to another terminal as they have a ton more shops and food places before you go through security. I try to spend as much time with my dad before I go to through security! I was a bit too anxious to eat so I split a sandwich with my dad and then had a Dramamine as I thought it would take awhile to take effect. There was next to no seats in that terminal and I felt bad for the people that were actually leaving through that one so we decided to head back to my own.

As we were leaving to go get the elevator back to the air train I spotted a little boy crying. At first I thought he had just been told off by his mom but when the elevator doors opened and he got on by himself I got very worried. I asked him: are you ok sweetie? but he just kept crying. My dad said that's the first time he actually noticed him, nice going dad! And he asked the little boy if he was lost. When he said he was, I let my dad handle the situation as I was ready to cry. We got off on the next level and the little boy asked me if he could use my phone. I asked him if he knew what number to call and he said he did, but I could see he was struggling to remember it. My dad asked what airline he was going with and when he told us, my dad lied and said that's where we were going as well. As we started to head down to the air train his mom and sister got off the elevator and called for him. I was so relieved they had found him, but I wanted to give his mom a piece of my mind! Especially when she yelled at her obviously scared son. :(

When we got back to Terminal 7 we waited in the waiting area (shocking) and I saw a cute dog being put into a crate as he was going on the flight with owner. But the poor thing had to be put down in cargo :( I can't imagine doing that to my own dog for seven hours! But sometimes you gotta do, what you gotta do. I noticed a lot of people were checking in at this point and went to go make sure that the line for security wasn't too long as I wanted to spend a little time past security as well. It wasn't all that bad so I went back down with my dad and talked to my sister on the phone for a little while. By this point the Dramamine had really kicked in and I was feeling pretty damn tired. Which wasn't good as I was worried (yeah, call me paranoid) that I would miss my flight when I left my dad! Haha! A little while later I decided to head through security and I have to admit, I got a bit misty eyed saying goodbye to my dad. But he made a joke and had me laughing soon enough! I love him. <3

I had to go through that body scan thing this time and it was SO much easier than the older scanners, let me tell you! I walked around for a bit before going to my gate (Gate 3) as I didn't really want to spend anymore money, haha! I got there about an hour or so before my plane was going to take off so I texted my sister and some friends to keep me busy. As it got closer to the time of boarding one of the workers said they would be letting families with small children, handicapped and the elderly go through first, followed by going in seat order. People don't seem to listen to that and others got into the line. What pissed me off, though, was that the worker didn't tell them to sit down and let anyone on the line go through. The only good thing about this was that I could get my things into the overhead fairly easy instead of having to move out of the way of other people trying to get past. The other two people in my row were already there and super nice! They helped me get my things into my seat as I had the window seat (34 A). I was sitting next to two older American women that were doing quite a bit of traveling!

We left our gate at 7:10 just on time but it seemed we were jinxed from there! The pilot came on and told us one of the engines wasn't starting. JUST what you want to hear trapped on a plane. :| We took off about an hour later, which I wasn't too happy about, but what can you do? I was a bit nervous when we were taking off as there was a lot of rattling but once we were completely off the ground it was fine! The person sitting in the middle saw that there was an aisle seat available and asked if she could switch out there. She was able to and that meant we had the middle seat free! :D I watched an episode of The Big Bang Theory and food came around a little while later! I noticed that the sticker on the top of my food said Child's Meal. I wouldn't have even bother asking for them to switch it but it had chicken nuggets in it and I just couldn't eat that! Haha! I told the flight attendant and she was nice enough to switch it for me. :D It was lasagna with CHEESE in it, hell yes! And I got to keep the normal dessert, which was strawberry cheesecake! :D I watched an episode of Glee, the one with the tator tots (if you don't watch the show, you won't get that at all haha!) which just got me in the mood for some. After that I was feeling pretty damn tired so I decided to get some sleep. I was so glad that the middle seat was free as I put my feet up on the seat, although that still wasn't comfortable enough. I move around a ton before I finally fall asleep so it wasn't entirely comfortable. I drifted in and out of sleep for about an hour before I just couldn't keep my eyes closed any longer. Since I bought my iPad along with me I decided to watch the latest episode of Law and Order: UK. I was a bit pissed with the flight attendants as they never came around with landing cards, which I needed to get through customs! I asked a flight attendant if I needed one and told them where I was going, they said: yes you do, but never came back around with a damn card for me! :|

When I got to the UK borders they thankfully had the cards there so I filled one out super quick and then got on line. I always get nervous when they ask me a billion and one questions, especially when my body clock is all: IT'S THREE IN THE MORNING, WHY ARE YOU STANDING UP? I got through security pretty damn fast, although something on my body set off the alarms...AGAIN. :|
