I was born and raised as Luthern. This never really changed, despite my attempt at agnostism during my teenage years. It's always important when you make a personal decision like that, and it's always wonderful when you can feel that passion and pleasure after a decision like that. I was baptized Episcopalian, went to church until I was about 12 or so, but once I was old enough to make my own decision, my mom was OK with me not going to church (she hadn't for some years, either). I have my own problems with Christianity, but... well, I follow my mother's theory of "as long as you don't worship men or sacrifice animals, I don't really care what you do".

You should never be ashamed of anything you feel strongly about or believe in, so don't.

Public rituals that are declarative in terms of status (like baptisms, weddings, graduation ceremonies) can be very powerful. It sounds like taking part in the baptism has allowed you to free yourself from whatever fear was holding you back from completely embracing the faith you had inside you. Good for you. :-)
