Tinfoil-hatters have been using the previous assumption (that it wasn't warming) as some sort of proof that climate change wasn't affected by anthropogenic activity.. burning fossil fuels and what-have-you. Personally, I find it just as foolish as people debating the "theory" of evolution*.
To make my position clear: I am going to go with the learned people consensus, that humans are affecting the rate/direction of climate change, until such time as the data shows otherwise. What religious nuts and conspiracy theorists seem to miss is that science, by necessity, must be humble. I am open to change and disproval -- it is only the religious and those holding firm to some other belief (sans evidence/support) that can never be wrong, as it will break their world view. I only want the truth, whatever it may be.
*(which Texas is trying to do AGAIN! -- I love being a southerner for many reasons, but I CRINGE when I think about how we push the creationist agenda!)
